Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni on mountain roads – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Talk about a perfect way to spend an afternoon. The boys over at Motor Trend got their hands on Lamborghini's hottest two-wheel-drive creation, the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, but instead of taking it to the track or recording performance data, they decided to show what this car does best – attack winding roads with brute force and staggering beauty. We'd be lying if we said we weren't just a wee bit jealous.

We highly suggest you take three minutes out of your day to watch this example of Italian supercar hotness storming through the mountains of California. It's a treat for both the ears and eyes, and you can experience it for yourself by clicking through the jump.

Bravo MT! Good job on filming, editing, and knowing when to keep your mouths shut. You have my newfound respect.

2 favorite views... bumper cam. Wish it was longer. And the rear wing view where you can watch the engine twist on its' mounts as the power is applied.

They did the same thing a while back on Top Gear, love watching the motor act like it wants to jump out of the car.

Note to editors of any online video; Also sprach Zarathustra [theme from 2001] is a f*&^ing cliche. STOP USING IT!

Wow, that is so weird how the wheels move so fast that up close they didn't even blur?! can anybody explain this phenomenon?

      Hmm lets see..

new 5.0 mustang makes an impressive 400+ horses..
long in the tooth gallardo 5.2 makes an even more impressive 540+ horses..

I definetly have respect for the new 5.0 from ford but wow...so much power per liter is why I respect and adore lambo's. Can't wait to see their next gen cars and engines!

I would have liked to hear the drivers impressions of how different it was to drive the RWD balboni edition and an AWD "standard" type gallardo on that same road.

I can explain why the image of the wheels seems to freeze and sometimes looks like it is going backwards when it is are really going forward.

It is called strobe effect. The camera takes 24, 30 or 60 still images every second, depending on what setting the camera is on. This camera looks to me to be shooting at 60 images or frames per second, but it might be 30, either way the science is the same. Your mind blurs the 60 frames per second into a seamless moving image, but sometime in the case of a rapid moving patten like a car wheel at certain speeds the frame rate of images catches the spokes of the wheel in the same position so look like they freeze, or the camera catches the spokes slightly behind the next spoke so they look like they are going backwards. The basic concept is just like what you see when someone is dancing under a strobe light and they appear to freeze. The wheel rotation and camera frame rates are just syncing up at certain speeds.

        Does this make sense?

...and a Honda S2000 gets 240HP from 2.0 litres. Not to mention a rotary, which gets 280HP from 1.3 litres.

Almost thought he was going to drive off the cliff in the end

Exactly what I was going to post. I was thinking "how in the HELL is he going to stop going so fast on gravel?" I was actually a little worried.

I'm really impressed that Motor Trend filmed it this well. It looks like something from the UK. Bravo Motor Trend! And bravo Lamborghini. Terrific car.

Good job Motor Trend. Though I would have liked some incar video of the driver shifting that glorious six speed through the gates.

      Wow. Amazing!

The right front wheel almost touched the ground on the left-hander from the bumper-cam.
