Spoon developing parts for Honda CR-Z
With Honda's in-house parts department in the game and Mugen developing it's own line of kit for the CR-Z, the tuner trifecta is almost complete with the release of Spoon's performance parts for Honda's hybrid hatch.
While we thought bright blue wheels went out of vogue (even in the U.S.) in 2008, Spoon has coated its CR93 rollers in the company's signature hue, along with upgraded calipers clamping onto 15-inch slotted discs. A ride height lowered by 50mm comes courtesy of front coilovers and a spring and shock combo in the rear, while the body has been subtly altered with the addition of a carbon fiber hood, mirrors and front lip spoiler.
More importantly, a new N1 exhaust has been fitted and Spoon is fiddling with the ECU to churn out a few extra (and much-needed) ponies. There's no word on what the rejiggered computer and exhaust is good for power-wise or how Spoon is manipulating the hybrid drive system to boost performance, but considering the company's past endeavors, we're expecting good things.

Spoon has never been about big HP numbers so I doubt this will impress on that front but they do develop very balanced cars for the track. I don't think we should judge this honda until we get a chance to drive it ourselves.

spoon? you need the whole cutlery drawer to get this car up to excitement

How about they add some form of locomotion to those wheels... i.e. power....

You guys, I invite you to go to Youtube and check out "ASM Tsukuba Lap". That might convince you that it isn't all about power. Lightweight, engine responsiveness, balance, etc. All these things can matter more than power if fun and lap time is of concern.

Manny: too bad modern cars aren't light.

Don't worry--the Mugen and Spoon parts aren't meant to be sold in the States. Americans have done a thorough job of telling Honda they don't like their little "ricer" cars, so they get Pilots and CrossTours instead and sit around wondering why Honda NA has gotten so boring. ;-)
On topic, the CR-Z does at least look a whole lot better at this ride height than it does stock.

Ditto what PJ said about the looks. Vast improvement. I still don't understand the 3 bar grill, but that's a quick fix.

* The ECU was remapped, increasing redline from 6200 rpm to 8500, with more torque in the mid range.
* Together, the gasoline engine and electric motor produce about 145 bhp and about 150 lb.-ft. of torque
* dashed to 60 mph in a scant 6.9 seconds and to the quarter mile in 15.5
i'd say those numbers are quite impressive for a hybrid...

Doesn't sound positive thus far.
Mugen sells the same crap that other aftermarket companies sell these days, no real 'go fast' parts other than an intake & exhaust, which are pretty useless on a modern engine.
Spoon doesn't look like they're offering much more.
Honestly the car doesn't have any potential until you strap a turbo or SC on it.

Goodness, looks like you offended the entire nation of torqueless tikes. Ricing is harmless fun, as long as nobody gets hurt.
I must say, hard to disagree with your comment, so a thumbs up you shall get...

I know, not sure why i got modded down. Not that i care. CR-Z owners will need all the horsepower stickers and bolt ons to compete with the slowest economy cars in production today.
Watch out for those Aveos guys, make sure your naws tank is full first

you might have been voted down because of having a mindset where horsepower is everything and the only thing....mugen and spoon have never really focused on forced induction, spoon focus on more motor work and suspension, brakes, and chassis than anything.
so yes, they arent going to be the shop with the highest hp honda shopcar, or anything near that cause that is not what they are chasing to accomplish

I've had Hondas before so i know what's fun about them, but they're no faster or better than they were in the 80's. And they pale in comparison to everything else.
You have to have some semblance of power, otherwise you can't make use of all that other stuff. Everyone really wants a Type-R/SI and we won't get it. Why do you think everyone dreams of swapping an engine into a Honda? cuz they're consistently underpowered.
Almost everyone posting here wants a k20 swap.
I used to be of the same mindset, then i bought a car that already had the capabilities that i want. Been happy with the thing for over a year.

That actually looks pretty good. I like it.

getting closer to looking good, though it needs a new front end

Will they offer an engine swap so you can have a *real* engine in the CR-Z? Like a K-series?

That was my thought as well.
Phase 1 - Ditch hybrid drivetrain for traditional K20A series engine.
Phase 2 - ???????
Phase 3 - PROFIT

Look, I'm not drag racing, and frankly, drag racing a FWD Honda is dumb, anyway. So my question is: How much power is enough? And for what kind of driving? I don't think I need a K-Series motor to have fun up the Big Thompson canyon I occasionally drive.
This car would work great for me.
