Toyota Australia Camry Hybrid advertisement – Click above to watch the video after the break

Here's a worthwhile goal: Let's see if we can get through this entire post without even mentioning unintended acceleration or recalls. Whoops. Let's talk about something else, shall we? How about the movie (500) Days of Summer, which we saw not too long ago on the big screen.

Perhaps our favorite scene from the movie, which was all-around pretty good, was when Tom Gordon, ably played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, danced his way through the city after, ahem... well, let's just say he had himself a good day. And that Zooey Deschanel is as cute as a button, assuming that brunette button were to have lovely light blue eyes and a great smile.

Anyway, it was a memorable scene. And Toyota's Australian arm seems to have noticed it as well, using a very similar tactic for a new commercial highlighting the new locally built Toyota Camry Hybrid. Have we mentioned how much we love ourselves some classic Hall and Oates? No? Well, never mind then. Just watch the video after the break for some classic '80s goodness. Thanks for the tip, Mark!

"And that Zooey Deschanel is as cute as a button, ..."

      Yes. Yes she is.

I needed to stop the video and for some reason it wouldn't stop. I kept hitting the stop button. And just would not stop!

Yeah Toyota that's how you get Aussie blokes trading in their Commodore or Falcon, show the car driving with men in tight lycra outfits back flipping around the car. I won't be suprised to see that they use Hybrid Camrys in this weekend's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Down Under the Camry drivers are known for being the worst on our roads, now more so than bloody Volvo drivers.

Oh and let's hope they don't accelerate out of control during the parade....everyone else was doing them jokes I couldn't resist :p

Agreed, Camry drivers are the Volvo drivers of the 21st century. And yes this isn't going to get blokes to change from Commdores and Falcons

Ok we can add this to the list with the Chevy Volt dancers.

Wow what a bunch of whiny pussies roam these threads.

Almost as dumb as the dancing flowers Prius commercial. Go Toyota!

*waits for out of control acceleration comment*

That is the absolute gayest car commercial I have ever seen in the forty five plus years I have paid attention to car commercials.

(And I’m not talking about homosexual because it would be an insult to homosexuals to even associate this with their orientation)

This makes the “Me and my Arrow” commercials downright butch. Holy crap I would never bee caught dead in one of those things based on that ad.

My God can Toyota get any worse?
Man... this car is just going to accelerate out of control. :)

I would actually like to see if people on this site can avoid the lame acceleration jokes in Toyota stories. They're annoying and just show how biased this site is against Toyota. I mean really when was the last time you saw rollover jokes posted in articles about Ford?
Toyota has been criticised for being too slow in responding to the accelerator problem. In defense, a Toyota spokesman replied, "We've got our pedal to the medal!"
Possibly because that happened to ford a decade ago and the toyota recalls are current and relevant. Your logic is broken.
You still see people making Pinto and Vega comments here.

Can we talk about speeding up beyond designed capabilities without the desire of the driver?
Yes... let's talk about the fact that their cars lack proper fault coding and electrical interlocking of the throttle system. I digress.
Please let's not. For one thing, Australians not so panic-stricken that the cars they've been driving for years are all suddenly going to go Christine on them--no 24-hour media probably helps--and for another, our Toyotas get their electronics from a different supplier, so there haven't been the recalls and related hysteria going on as in the States.

If anything, Australians are excited about the jobs growth from Camry Hybrids being built domestically.
Australians probably know about that silly little "N" thing between R and D, assuming they are even automatics.

I haven't seen the movie you are referencing to, but this ad by itself is pretty crap. Makes me change the channel each time it comes on. They should've stayed with this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmmdeQDzc8M
