Ford Fiesta Rally shakedown at SayersBrook – Click above for high-res image gallery

Ken Block and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino are headed back to the 100 Acre Wood Rally this weekend in an attempt to dominate the race for the fifth consecutive year. However, the major difference is what the gravel-bound duo are driving: The #43 Monster World Rally Team Ford Fiesta.

After a suspension issue resulted in a DNF for the team at the Sno*Drift rally earlier this month, Block and Gelsomino are out to prove the Fiesta is up to the task of beating snow, gravel and ice into submission. To that end, they headed out to SayersBrook Bison Ranch this week to give the Fiesta a proper shakedown ahead of the event, and you can check out the results in the video after the jump.

This race will prove Ken and Ford's relationship. If he wins, this will be great for him and Ford, along with their images. Good luck and may the Blue Oval take you to a 5-peat. :D

Off topic - Nice to know he uses the same GoPRO HD camera I use on my car I am noticing in the photo above..

That's the first thing I noticed as well. I wonder if the other photos are from a different day or if the camera fell off.

Is this the Fiesta S2000 like the one used by Hirvonen in the Rally Monte Carlo 2010?
And it was just me or the co-driver seem to "sing" the pace notes like a fin accent co-driver?LOL

Its actually the same Fiesta that Gronholm used at Pikes Peak but the engine has been toned down so that it can compete in the Rally America Open Class.
Hirvonen's S2000 is prepped by M-Sport in the UK and Ken's Rally America Fiesta is prepped by Olsbergs from Sweden.
Ken's has a Turbo and Hirvonen's is Naturally Aspirated. Hope this helps.

I think he'll make us Yanks proud unlike a certain F1 team.

Wow, nice footage and editing! These practice sessions ought to really help him get the feel of the car. I'm sure Ford and the other sponsors are throwing a dump truck full of money at this effort to help them be successful. Either way, this practice session is great publicity for all involved. If I lived nearby I'd have paid a few dollars just to spectate or drive the course in my own car myself. If Ken was giving rides, all the better!

Going over a jump while drifting is an awesome visual affect.

There is no way this thing can have a suspension that even remotely resembles the torsion beam from the factory. I suspect this is all-wheel-drive with a custom multi-link or wishbone rear suspension. Too bad that can't be had by consumers.
