Honda HSV-010 – Click above for high-res image gallery

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but if you had the chance to attend GTLive back in 2004 at the California Speedway, you got a rare glimpse into the world of SuperGT.

Interspersed with one of the first D1 competitions in the States and your normal show car detritus, was an exhibition race of both GT500 and GT300 cars in their heyday. After the race, there was talk of SuperGT coming back to the U.S. for an official event, but those plans were laid to waste and six years later, the most exciting series out of Japan has yet to return to our shores.

Why brings this sad tale up? Because the video after the jump is as close as any of us are going to get to the 2010 SuperGT season unless we book a ticket to Narita for the season opener at Suzuka. If high-revving touring cars is your thing – and if you're interested in getting an earful of the all-new Honda HSV-010click past the break for a little sample of this year's contenders ahead of the big race next month.

Amazing cars like the Insight, Civic and CRZ hybrids really show their sporty heritage and class leading performance. No need for a benchmark sports car when you have those.

Heavenly is one way of putting it. The thought that first ran through my mind when I heard the Honda was, "that sounds f-ing wicked!"

      This is so awesome!

How do us Americans get to watch this series? Does speedtv have coverage of it? I'd like to keep up with the series if possible.

So, why is there no production version again ?
Seriously Honda should just build the production version, price it right, and give the LFA a run for its money. (literally; that thing is way over-priced).
They won't even bother to bring this car because It can't even touch the Nissan GT-R, The Lexus about the only thing it has going for it is that it's a "masterpiece" of engineer to elude the fact that for the money/performance a Nissan GT-R is better...That pretty much leaves Acura in a predicament, It's not built by weird exotic machines like the Lexus or any better for the money/performance then the GT-R....So what is there left to do? save face and scrap the idea....
I'll place a pre-order right away if they release the production version with a reasonable price tag (as long as it doesn't come with that hideous Acura grill.)
The reason there is no production version is because consumers today want touchscreen navs and heavy, boring cars, yet they claim to want high MPG. But MPG is easy to attain with a lightweight car. But again Americans especially, would rather pay a 5-10 thousand dollar premium over the standard car for the hybrid then say they are SAVING money. Psh. They could care less about about nimble, great handling, non touchscreen poking vehicles.

        mnmlist,

        Go away.

        mnmlist,

You're retarded for making this thread about touchscreens. Off-topic bullsith like yours is called trolling.

        Go away.
@bigdumbface: I'm not trolling. He asked "why won't they build it?" I answered with a few reasons that i thought was the case. If you don't like a the idea of a open comment section then go to another blog.
@bigdumbface: big...dumb...face. Its the truth. And you prolly feed right into the corporate plans. I can see the overpaid execs talking it over now..."First we'll get them to think hybrids will save them so much gas, but we'll charge them an arm and a leg for the car. 5-10 thousands buys a LOT of gas but we'll market to them(lie to them) into this is the way to go. Oh yeah and every generation well make the curb weight and dimensions bigger than the previous generation. Stupid consumers."

      If only...

      *sigh*

The cars are great and all, but I want to watch the race on that huge effin gondola in the background towards the end!

I love how tame and almost tranquil the track and pit row is...then some hooligan goes and turns on a car.
