Rinspeed UC? Concept – Click above to watch the video after the break

The future of automotive transportation, huh? Many so-called futurists have attempted to predict what we'll all be driving five, 10 or even 15 years from now, but there seem to be more questions than answers. Will we even be driving at all? It would seem that Swiss design studio Rinspeed sees us piloting tiny little electrically operated vehicles from point A to point B, alongside teenagers that like to hang out in urban areas riding skateboards and jumping over obstacles. At least that latter part doesn't sound all that different from today, right?

Moving on to more interesting things, namely Rinspeed's awkwardly named and Geneva-bound UC? Concept, we see plenty of in-car communications and entertainment systems that apparently work along with the mobile phone in your pocket. Wait a second, is that a scratch? No worries! Just take out the handy-dandy color-matched BandAid in your pocket and you're good to go!

Need to go farther than the UC?s (ugh, that name!) 65-mile range will allow? Simply pull into your special parking space in the city-to-city electric train, plug your car in for good measure, and you're off with nary a care in the world. All that's left is to tell all your BFFs about your day via the in-car Twitter interface. Isn't technology grand? Click past the break to see for yourself.

So where was the driver during the train ride? Sitting in the dark with no view? And why did the car exit the train at the same location it entered?

        More touchscreens I see, ugh!

The sticker paint fix looks like a real product. It was one of the many things written on the side of the car.

OMG, they tried to make this car so hip and it just isn't, lame.

Uggh, I pray Twitter is no longer relevant in 5 years.

I pray that it's no longer relevant tomorrow.

Is it really necessary to use a beautiful woman to get people to look at a really ugly car? (Not that I'm complaining, of course.) That's just like tying meat around your neck just to get the dog to play with you.

That is horrible having the logo pop off the car to plug it in. now you have to carry it around while charging. hopefully it has a lock on it or people will steal those like they did the old dodge ram hood ornaments. Hopefully no one unplugs your car while you go shopping too.

the train part is hilarious. how will you know which train car has an open slot? imagine the traffic at those stops, getting in and out of the train car. and then its your stop, but someone is in front of your loading spot, guess you will get off at the next station. this whole sequence seems a ridiculous logistical nightmare that tries to solve one problem with an overly complicated solution. you will need a computer robot overlord to get this system to work.

i love the built in charging station with magically appearing charging arm out of rectangle way to thin to actually contain it. it didn't swing up, but came out perpendicular to the surface. it looked impossible to be translated in real life. would it be so hard to CG model something slightly real world functional? dont forget to first get out and remove the badge before you "auto charge" your car. if you don't park your car perfectly in your garage, you might accidentally recharge your headlight.

not feeling the edgey skateboard parkour crowd on this one... it's trying way too hard to be clever and edgey, hip and youthfull. and its not very attractive. the interior is horrible. for all the money rinspeed spends on these goofmobiles, i keep hoping they will make one simple and nice looking vehicle that functions sensibly, but if they did that, it wouldn't be rinspeed.

well america is a mess, we all know that.
we have to teach you guys anything.
open your mouth and we put in the spoon.

my mom and her husbands full size 40 ton truck travel the eurotunnel each week several times, i never heard anything about no room or what so ever on that train.

man, stop acting like a child.
think so more, think all options possible.

you guys immediately start the helicopter and load the news crews to search for sensation.
        grrrr

        bad bad america

has rinspeed actually created anything that's been put into production? each time i see something from them, it seems more conceptual, making it seem that this company is nearly vaporware.

that said, this is probably the coolest electric car i've seen yet!
Nah, in the future every parking lot and road will be paved with giant cordless charging pads. Power cords, get a load of this guy with power cords.
the future might also be trains.

        america is huge and poor.
(that's why european car producer move to usa, because it has become a low wage country.)
how do you expect to upgrade all those roads?
you don't even have the money to reapir all those potholes.
i have seen every episode of dirty job and many other programs.
i know in what state you country is, not even close the state of the original 12 european union countries.

        don't bet on it.
