After its decision to euthanize Oldsmobile, General Motors knows exactly what happens when it mothballs one of its brands: GM loses market share to the competition. The General is trying to stop history from repeating itself with Saturn customers by offering $2,000 on the hood of every car and crossover donning the ringed planet badge. Automotive News says the offer actually started on February 2 and runs until the end of March. To be eligible for the $2,000 bounty Saturn owners must have leased or purchased their Saturn at least six months ago. Interestingly, those owners don't even have to turn in their Saturn to be eligible for the cash.

AN reports that research company R.L. Polk says even before Saturn went on the endangered species list, it lagged other GM nameplates in the all-important aspect of customer retention. The mass exodus from Saturn loyalty predictably intensified at the end of 2008 as customers became anxious over the future of the brand. For its part, GM insists that all Saturn warranties will be upheld and customers looking for service can still go to a GMC, Chevy, Buick or Cadillac dealership.

GM is also owning Pontiac owners up to $2000 off a new GM, expcept for the new LaCrosse, the new Equinox, and the new Terrain, which are on my list for consideration.

On the other hand, the CTS wagon is eligible, although it's a pain trying to find one on a dealer lot for under $50K.

How about some love for Pontiac owners?

        invisible,

I bought my '08 Astra 9 MONTHS BEFORE it was announced the brand was being canceled.

Since it was announced, the resale value on it has dropped about $2k.

This is the least GM could do to keep me in the family.

Pontiac owners should be getting a similar offer.

I'm sorry, you're right. You should be rewarded for your stupid buying decision. That is the new American way.

Retention money? wife has had 4 or 5 saturns, the latest is her 08 Aura. She gets no retention money when she buys new again?
The only thing GM makes that is worth owning is a CTS-V wagon.
Careful man, you're going to get the GM lovers/import haters angry.
      Nice gesture.

Wait, so GM is offering people $2,000 for a car that has lost much more value than that, so they will come back and buy another GM product?

        Dr Greenthumb

Are you actually a doctor of any kind? You must need to go back to school with sentiment like that. "The domestics" like GM with their octopus tentacles in China? The Fords made in Mexico? The only domestic cars worth looking at are the Mustang and the F150 Raptor.

Cadillac will have to wash itself for a very long time to get rid of the GM bailout stink. When GM does cheesy little salesman-screaming-at-you-on-TV or wacky waving inflatible flailing arm man stuff like this "incentive"(bribe), they lose even more credibility than their Chapter 11 filing cost them.

Seen how much value your Toyota has lost lately? I'll stick the domestics thank you.
At least Toyotas are still being manufactured.

      Since it's tax payer money.

Just give the current Saturn owners a new GM product. Heck, the money just grows on trees.

Oh, and give that whiney Bob Lutz the raise he is wanting.

We have a 2008 Saturn and are about to lose it because THE DEARLY GM had my husband and many of his co-workers walked out with security like a criminal. They so graciously gave them 6months severance. Now he is on unemployment and we can hardly make ends meet. No job offers after a year. HMM maybe it's his age. He certainly has applied for many jobs in his field that he is well qualified for. Then to add salt to the wounds the ones let go after them received their pension and extra till their social security kicks in. Why would I even think of buying another gm vehicle from those jerks. I hope they all sleep well because we don't. I am so sick of hearing about all the perks that upper management gets when so many are out there barely surviving. Apparently none of them are much of a human. No morals only greed.

Brought to by the private sector financial opportunists, the Obama Administration (our federal GOVERNMENT) and at the expense of TAX PAYER'S MONEY, we now offer you Government Motors, formally known as GM. Who the hell would buy into that....oh, that's right, ignorant liberals do daily.
Oh, but that's Bush's fault, too! LOL
        @Dot
Bush gave GM a bailout first (to the tune of $17.4 billion split with Chrysler). Is your cognitive dissonance hurting, yet?

Nothing says intelligence like spewing insults. I was unaware that even stating ANY facts that might run contrary to your ideological viewpoints was grounds for dismissal as retarded.

However, your assumption that I'm a socialist because I believe in objectiveness does nothing but show your own ignorance, as does your "hurr, get out of America" diatribe.

America was created out of intelligent debate - people like you would just as soon have us stick our heads in the sand and do as we're told. And yet you continue to think that there is really any difference between Bush and Obama - that they are so dissimilar that one led our country to enlightenment while the other put us on the path to destruction.

You should gain some perspective on what "cognitive dissonance" actually means. I was calling out hypocrisy - how one can call a practice bad when displayed in a certain individual, yet praise the same behavior in another.

Why don't you "paradigm shift" your head out of your ass?
The offer is actually for current and previous Saturn owners that want to get into a new GM product. The offer isn't JUST for Saturn vehicles, it's an attempt to retain current Saturn owners that are currently "in-market"

Stay away from GM they do not want to support Saturn vehicles. I have an ioncoupe and having a problem with the power steering unit which is on recall with Vue and Colbolt which has the same engine as my Ion quad coupe but Saturn and GM refuse to acknowledge the problem. I had water leakage in my car due to a design flaw of the sunroof and they refused to pay for the problem. GM is unreliable to stand behind their mistakes like toyota until enough people get killed.

      Can I use it towards a Hummer H2? ... or maybe a Pontiac G8?
