Citroën DS High Rider Concept – click above for high-res gallery

Citroën has released the dark teaser images you see above, previewing the new DS High Rider crossover concept that is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The silhouette shows a high-riding GT-type body style, similar to such past Citroën show cars as the 2005 C-Sportlounge and the 2008 Hypnos. The concept is a diesel hybrid, but this being a show car, anything can happen along the road from concept to production. While the DS4 is expected to borrow its underpinnings from the C4 (like the DS3 does from the C3), the bodystyle ought to further distance the premium crossover from the mass-market hatchback.

This will be the second vehicle in the DS line from Citroën, following the DS3. When it debuts in Geneva, it is expected to be accompanied by the DS3-R (or DS3 Racing) hot hatch, while a DS2 based on the unfortunate Revolte concept is also tipped to be in the works.

Citroën has released first details of a striking new concept design that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. DS HIGH RIDER is the second concept associated with Citroën's innovative and distinctively styled DS line.

Without denying the appeal of conventional coupés, DS HIGH RIDER represents a bold and radical vision of the future, combining compact dimensions with generous internal volumes, dynamic performance, sophisticated style and consummate quality.

Unlike traditional 4-seater coupés, with their long, low design, the DS HIGH RIDER is compact and muscular.

Its character is expressed in its unique driving sensations, with a sleek flowing windscreen that soars over the heads of front occupants - hinting at a bright and spacious cabin environment. The apparently continuous glazed area of the side windows connects the A-pillars to the gently sloping roof line of the rear.

Planted firmly on stylish 19" alloy wheels and beautifully in proportion, DS HIGH RIDER's confident profile is characterised by its high waistline. Its front end is purposeful with gaping air intakes, long incisive headlights and defined ridges along the bonnet.

DS HIGH RIDER is an expression of automotive luxury and elegance - exemplified by its glossy golden paintwork and brushed chrome trim that accentuate the car's flowing lines. The roof is covered with a coated textile material - a tactile feature of quality.

Just 4.26m long, 1.82m wide & 1.48m high, DS HIGH RIDER combines a neat and nimble chassis, for responsive handling, with intelligent design architecture that provides occupants with a generous amount of internal space.

DS HIGH RIDER's ability to rise above conventional design constraints is also reflected in its choice of power. Offering an enjoyable driving experience with dynamic on-road performance, DS HIGH RIDER is respectful of the environment with an advanced 'Full Hybrid' diesel drivetrain that combines a refined HDi DPFS* engine under the bonnet with an electric motor located on the rear axle. The hybrid platform enables DS HIGH RIDER to combine the fuel efficiency and power of an HDi diesel engine with the ecological benefits of a new generation electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle). Under certain conditions, both engines combine to deliver additional power with additional torque transmitted to the rear wheels.

Looks like an expensive Ford Focus to me.

mmhhh...the car has been shown already, this teaser is from yesterday morning (european time)

They should instead build a retro version of the original DS!

I am really digging this concept.

Subaru, take some styling cues from this car for your next Impreza Outback.

Essentially the same profile as the Nissan Juke.

Why couldn't the Nissan look at least this good?
Probably because Renault owns Nissan, and this is a Citroën. Totally different companies, different products.
I suddenly realized, or is it my imagination, that the Nissan Juke and Nissan Leaf appear to be based on the same basic body, and actually resemble one another.

      Is this 4WD?

Funky cool in a typical French way. I dig it. and love the grille with the integrated double chevron logo. Still, the DS name is not appropriate. It captures none of the revolutionary avant gardeness of the original.

Why they didn't build the Hypnos.
      That was awesome
The Hypnos's gonna be the DS5.

I'm seeing a *lot* of Mitsubishi in that front fascia...

Hey Euro cousins, would you folks spend more money on a DS3/4 instead of buying the C3/4? I know people spend more on an Audi A3 instead of GTI for example, but the Citroens will be sold in the same showrooms. I am not sure how this will work for Citroen.
It's actually not that different. People are already buying V-dubs and Audis at the same dealer today here in Europe (At least in some parts). The big seller of the A3 isn't the four rings, but the quality and generally higher standard in the A3. If the DS models will be able to differentiate themselves in quality as well as design from the standard C models, I don't think Citroen will have a problem selling them. As long as they don't try to sell them at German car prices!
