Kia Forte Koup Racecar - Click above for high-res image gallery

Kia has been making waves this past year or so with introductions like the Soul and the Forte Koup, and for 2010, they hope to be make an impact on the racetrack as well. Here at the Chicago Auto Show, Kia is displaying their new Forte Koup racecar that is competing in Grand-Am's Continental Sports Car Challenge series for 2010. The Korean manufacturer's first foray into motorsports will be managed by Georgia-based Kinetic Motorsports who will field a pair of cars in the Street Tuner (ST) class against cars like the Mazda3, BMW 330, and Volkswagen GTI.

The #10 car at the show was fresh off the truck from its debut at the Fresh From Florida 200 at Daytona Speedway last month, where it finished an underwhelming 31st in class. The #12 sister car fared a little better, ending the race in a respectable 19th place. You can watch both cars in action on SPEED Channel's tape-delayed broadcast of the race on February 13th at 7:00 pm EST. Until then, you can browse through our photos in the gallery below.

        Straight angle side lines + 4 wheels + 2 door coupe = Scion look-a-like?

I see, the KONI Challenge is renamed now. Can we please get better coverage this year? The final race of the season (the one with the Camaros) never aired on SPEED.

SPEED loves to tape delay these (if they show them at all). Just like this one is scheduled for this weekend when the race was last month.

        Lame.

SPEED officially needs more racing. Specifically more sports car racing (less NASCAR).

haha just mentioning Speed channel pisses me off. during the weekdays you will not find a single decent program on that channel. HD theater can't pick up all the slack either they have to air things that are more than just motorsports. Speed (Fox) really needs to get its s*** together. Why can't they make a Nascar tv channel like the NFL has? sure as hell would have enough Nascar programming to fill the time slots.

I was quite underwhelmed with their performance. It could be a long season ahead, but if they make strides in racing like they have in the showroom, they could give other teams/automakers a run for their money.

looking for street cred they are.

I like these cars (stock version) a lot. Great value and sporty looking.

This is not Kia's "first foray into motorsports". Kia has been active in the Baja series off-road racing for years.

Kias are very nice looking cars compared to the other foreign makes.

I wish the people drawing these designs were working for one of our domesic companys.

I`d buy a Kia over a Toyota any day.

I don`t think I quite ready to say the same about Honda but close.

Mazda has been the niceset looking of the Japanese makes until they ruined the latest 3.

This is not exactly new. It was announced and was on show at SEMA last November

Uh ya, I'm pretty sure they know that. But have you seen the actual car yet? Or knew that they debuted at their first race last month? Didn't think so.

It was also at the NAIAS.

Cool, but as mentioned before, nothing new. For the uninitiated, what mods are allowed in the ST class?

Just so everyone knows the race is actually being broadcast on Saturday not Firday like the post said....
