2011 Ford Shelby GT500 – Click above to watch video after the jump

You've no doubt read by now everything we've had to say about the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 with its new aluminum engine. But what does it sound like? Glad you asked. We've got two clips of B-roll after the jump showing both the GT500 coupe and convertible out running on what appears to be a frigid Michigan afternoon (feel sorry for the guy driving the drop top). Fortunately, lots of time is spent mashing both their throttles so we can hear that new 5.4-liter supercharged aluminum engine howl. Question: Can a car look lighter? If so, the GT500 definitely does, especially at WOT as the car transfers its weight to the rear wheels with haste and boogies off. Follow the jump and twist the dial to 11 before you hit play.

A special edition Mustang without any fake scoops, chrome wheels, or something covering up the rear quarter windows - did hell just freeze over? It's like they actually let someone with taste design it.

I'm a euro-car snob (well, let's be honest, poser), but I'm really impressed by this. First Mustang other than the Giugiaro concept that I'd actually desire to have.

Amazing sound. I love the sound of a good exhaust combined with supercharger whine :)

Do they have stock GT brakes in back?

Putting 20" rear wheels & 19" front wheels is dumb.
18" will clear the front, 16" will clear the rear.
255/40 19 front, 285/40 18 rear would be my suggestion. 285/40 18 all around would be interesting, so would 265/40 19 all around.
        (235/50 18, 255/45 18 for winter)

Also, I wasn't commenting on the larger diameter optional rear tire, but that is also dumb too.
How much more 'contact patch' does 285/35 20 have over 285/35 19
What kind of spare wheel does this platform have?

If the evaporative emissions components were relocated to a more sensible location, then a full size spare wheel (255/45 18) could fit. [285 width would be wishful thinking]
What size spare wheel would you use if you had two different diameter tire/wheel combinations on your car?
and you don't have an open rear differential.

        MikeW:

Ford has said before that 285 is as wide as they can go on the platform. If you can't go wider, you go taller. In this case, it's NOT dumb as it's the only way they can get more contact patch.

But it sounds like you know it all, so......

Sounds sweet. Looks awesome. Love the rear wing, the front fascia, the wheels, the brakes, the shifter.... Umm Love the entire car. Me wants.

Sounds great. I think I would wait for the 5.0 motor though.

If this had AWD and a dual clutch automatic, it would be impossible to resist. As it is, it is only for dry, sunny days and is not a practical purchase as an only car. I am opting for the Audi S5 instead. I really would rather buy American (especially to reward Ford for not turning Marxist like GM) but they are many years behind being able to market to people like me who could actually buy one of these.

Oh, sweet, sweet, sweet! I am not a Mustang fan, but I LOVE this car - the way it looks, the way it sounds...it's just pure sex. If they will keep the price in check, I may have myself a sweet new ride!! Nice!

Don't feel bad for the guy in the vert, he is a lucky, lucky man. Plus with that big engine churning away in front of him there's plenty of hot air coming from the heater vents.

Hotness, though the drop top needs a roll bar

I don't feel sorry for someone driving a brand new 550 hp car before everyone else, just button up and crank up the heat.

Anyways, amazing sound! good thing there isnt any cheesy music on the videos

I love the car but really find this particular one kind of ugly. The narrow white stripes and dirty-looking wheels are just plain nasty to me. The GT500 is really a hot-looking car, just not in the case, sorry.

The sound portion of the video could be of an f150 and we'd never know. LOL
