Audi A1 Spy Shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

Audi has gone the typical swirly exterior applique route with its upcoming new Mini-fighting A1 hatchback, but our intrepid spy photographers still managed to snap off a series of shots that show the premium little city car out and about undergoing shake-down testing.

Judging from these photos, it's clear that Audi's smallest vehicle will retain the German automaker's trademark headlights and their bottom row of LED highlights, along with its customary gaping grille and fascia. We're also a wee bit intrigued to see why Audi was so careful in concealing the area behind the side windows.

We'll see the rest of the A1 in all its minicar glory early next month at the Geneva Motor Show, but until then, these are the best spy shots of the car that we're likely to see. Check 'em out for yourself in our high-res image gallery below.

This car, might be a dorky clown car to some of you. I know the feeling. Every time I see a Prius, I automatically assume the driver is an ass clown. It represents the anti car to me. But as some have already mentioned, small cars are the future. I love Audi's as they are great driver's cars and have great build quality and materials. If I'm going to be a clown, I may as well be driving the brand I like.

I think it looks like a Kia version of the latest Hyundai Accent 3-door. Especially now that Kia has copied Audi's tailights. I like premium hot hatches just as much as the rest of you guys on here, but I don't think they're going to get people to pay $25-30k for this little car (at least in the US; in EU, yes of course...).

      wow, looks really narrow!
oh, that is just the AB image viewer squishing everything as usual.
funny, so much of our impressions of cars are based on their appearance, you would think AB would have a picture viewer that would not distort everything.

Same here...looks very similar to the A3, but I'll reserve further judgment until I see the car sans camo.

It's been on Audi's UK site for a few days. Why is there still this type of speculation? Poor reporting?

What is the A1 expected to retail for? The A3 already retails for around $27,000 so it goes without saying the A1 will have to be at least 5 grand cheaper to make buyers willing to purchase such a small vehicle instead of saving up a few more grand to buy the A3. Is the A1 expected to be a mini destroyer? If so will it have sport models with more horsepower? If the A1 was priced around 20,000 I would deff be interested in purchasing the car. Especially seeing how it will have quatro which will be great competition for Subaru, one of the only hatchbacks around with AWD.
