What do you get when you drop a Corvette ZR1-sourced supercharged V8 tuned to output 705 horsepower into the engine bay of a Chevrolet Camaro? You have one very fast pony car. Add Hennessey performance parts to keep that power focused on the road and you've got Mustang-thumping tour-de-force the likes of which the world has... well, you get the point.

The folks at Hennessey want to make sure that their modded Camaro is worthy of its hefty price tag, so they have little choice but to test their high-powered beast on the road and at the track. Tough job. Hit the jump to watch the HPE700 LS9 Camaro as it takes on the road course at MSR Houston. We can't get enough of the sound of the LS9 V8 mill as it pushes the Herculean Camaro to 130 miles per hour on the straights, and watching the Camaro hit 1G in the turns doesn't suck either.

You asked, "What do you get when you put a ZR1 engine in a camaro?" I answer, it looks like another camaro that "pushes" like a dump truck. Is it just me or does that thing appear to understeer like nobodies business?

      What a load of crap.
Wearing a full faced helmet but then no fire suit, but a tee shirt, no harness belt, sitting like a moron, no rollbar or cage, racing line is what a dork does and worse the speed, G meter, etc does not match where he was on the road.

The car handling is like some riceball and straightaway speeds a dork would do.

I suspect most of the parts were stolen from some customers car.

MSR is actually quite a smooth track. I've driven my STi there quite a few times and I don't think I've ever seen such a horribly setup track car (if it's even trying to be one - I hope not).

I imagine a regular Z06 would be faster around MSR than that. He can barely get on the power at any speed unless the wheel is completely straight.

I think he just has the wrong tire setup on that car. It can generate more lateral Gs than the horizontal locating capabilities of that suspension can handle. They need to redo the suspension, the it will stop rolling from left to right wheel I think.

I bet even without the engine change it would have done that at 1G lateral with that suspension.

I just came here to laugh at the funny comments about Hennessey. lol

Now THAT'S a muscle car that everyone can enjoy...unless you actually try to order one...then you have a pretty slim chance of ever enjoying it.

All that bouncing around crap would make that absolutely annoying. I know race tracks aren't smooth but that wallowing would get old fast.

Wow. That thing handles like a pig!

Actually, this is one of the best looking Camaro's I've seen. Still doesn't make it worth the asking price.
Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know how a stock ZR1 compares (lap-time wise) on this track.

I hope they were able to lower their percentage of stolen parts.

What a pointless exercise in trying to boost one's ego.

Supercharging an overweight car. Looked like it was a handful out there.
