2011 Infiniti QX56 - Click either image for a gallery

The panjandrums behind the New York Auto Show are happy to announce that Nissan and Infiniti will both be there this April. Not only that, Infiniti will be bringing a new, and very large, toy to unveil: the redesigned 2011 QX56 SUV. New York is Nissan's premier designated market area, which could mean a lot for the fortunes of an SUV some thought would have already shuffle off this mortal coil.

Last year Nissan sounded a little bearish on the entire auto show enterprise, but that sentiment appears to have been forgotten entirely – it has eight new models on the way this year and will need to show them off. Now if we could just get them to add a ninth, that Essence coupe, we'd be as happy as the NYIAS folks. You can have a look at a couple angles of the QX56 in the gallery below.

To be honest, I actually think it looks pretty good for a giant SUV. Just because this type of vehicle exists it doesn't mean it has to have a supercharged V8 and be driven 100 miles/day by solo commuters in the fast lane...some people legitimately live in poor-weather climates or rural areas that demand a tougher vehicle than a crossover/wagon, and some people tow stuff. I personally drive a compact hatch that serves my purpose for cargo/efficiency just fine, but I don't attempt to think that this would suit everyone's purpose for a vehicle.

Good job, Infiniti! This looks 1000 times better than the last one, and although it's a little garish and impractical for most, it does have a purpose.

This is just horrible! Can't we all just drive a prius or a forester. Save the planet!! Stop global warming!!!

That main photo makes it look like a Chevy HHR mated with a Range Rover.

That's not a good thing, by the way,,,

Redesigned, and yet gone nowhere... this thing is and has been the worst-looking large SUV I can think of, ever.

The nay-sayers are getting very tiresome.

Blingy and bloated with garish side vents. As others said, does the world need another one of these vehicles. The last one didn't sell well, I doubt this one will.
