Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S – Click above for high-res image gallery

Another day, another new special-edition Subaru Impreza. There are worse things, after all. This one, however, doesn't quite have the substance of the recently unveiled WRX STI R205. Whereas the R205 is a real fire-breathing monster of a hatch, the long-winded Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S (try saying that three times fast) is mostly a trim package.

That package includes 18-inch gunmetal rims, gold Brembo brake calipers and Recaro buckets in a cockpit decked out with contrasting red top-stitch and a 10-speaker audio system. It definitely looks sharp, but the Japanese consumers that are able to buy it shouldn't expect much in the way of heightened performance over the already stonking STI. The Type S commands a 3,255,000 yen (circa $35k USD) sticker price in its domestic market, so if you want to have a look and you don't live in the Land of the Rising Sun, you had better check it out in our high-res image gallery below.

no matter what they do to this it's still one ugly car, not to take away form it's performance but if this was a looker the car could be selling 2-3x the volume it does today and that's a shame

I have to disagree, I think the subaru STI is one of the better looking high performance hatch cars we got. Only thing better on the market is the euro mugen civic hatch, the new euro forcus RS and the euro megan trophy car. notice a trend?
Huh? The Impreza hatch looks better than the sedan.

it's still ugly no matter how you put it
        and I mean Azteck ugly

        Looks tasty to me.

Can't think of a better looking hi-performance hatch for the money, nor many better looking Japanese cars.

The Mazdaspeed has a goofy smile: makes me cringe. This front of this car, with the swooping lines, the hoodscoop, the grill, you name it: makes me smile. Looks great in black or white. Sadly, world rally blue just doesn't look right on the new model...

Now those are the seats we need in the US spec STI.....Subaru what have we done to deserve this unfair treatment?

I like how it's mentioned nowhere in the post that the A-line series denotes that it's an AUTOMATIC
        • 5 Years Ago

It is an option package on top of the Automatic-version of the STI in Japan.

Option package for Recaros, Brembos, and stereo, and dark wheels... sport appearance package, basically. :D

Heaven forbid that US Subaru products get much of any of that.

        No Recaros.
No Brembos, aside from WRX STI.
Rare optional upgraded stereos, and McIntosh has not been an option since before MY2005.
Whoopie... dark wheels. Subaru could use some new wheel designs in the US market, though...

No such US market "Love"... even though they advertize that owners love their subarus... Subaru of America doesn't really "love" the owner/customer base that much.

Otherwise they wouldn't have ruined the Legacy from a great little sport sedan, to a bulky, chunky, de-contented mainstream-wannabe.

I hope they do the coupe right... And a "type S" option package would be welcomed, if it offers what it offered to upgrade the STI A-line.

I just wish we could get the Recaros here ....

Can the name get any longer?
        They're simply keeping with tradition.

Previous gen had a "WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R".

and you ppl bash the new Z4-whatever's name, i personally think this cars name is just a little worse... great lookin car though!
I would personally prefer a Dodge Neon Type R Type S RS SS Si STI GTI SHO SpecV SRT10 TRD. I heard it's faster.
