Volvo C30 EV Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

As expected, Volvo brought along an all-electric C30 hatchback concept to the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. While this isn't a production vehicle at this point, Volvo says the car is a fully drivable prototype with a complete interior, full instrumentation, and enhanced battery packaging.

We made our way down to Volvo's area here at Cobo in Detroit to check the battery-electric C30 out for ourselves, and honestly we came away impressed. As Volvo says, the C30 EV is a complete package with little evidence that it's not a production model. See for yourself in our high-res gallery of live images below.

You can rattle off all those fancy numbers, and those are great accomplishments. However, there is absolutely nothing exciting about the car from a design and aesthetics standpoint.

why do they always put such ugly wheels on EV's? I know aerodynamics is a top priority but those wheels shout "ugly POS" reguardless of whats under the skin

Am I the only person who is getting sick of all of these "concept" EV's and super duper high MPG cars that haven't made it to reality yet? I feel like every car that we see on here has a ETA of 2014 or something. And every year that passes, its like the ETA year keeps getting pushed back.

I feel like they are never going to get here. I've been waiting to get rid of my 2005 Acura TL that I bought back in 2005 for a while now and I don't even have anything in the flesh that I want yet.

Come on Volt and Voltesqe cars. Please arrive so I can find a replacement.

er..hello...this vehicle was developed by Volvo so they are free to use the designs and developments they worked on for this project

I happen to like the simple interior on volvos like this one. I think more cars should have simple interiors. Too many dashboard buttons are plaguing most automakers designs. What happened to just focusing on driving? I hope volvo keeps it simple with their new owners, who ever that will be.

What is the range? What is the top speed? What good is an entry about an EV without those two pieces of data? Of course it looks production ready - its a C30 with an electric drivetrain. The car has been out and about for a few years. Just like the Ford Focus on the Jay Leno Show looks production ready but hardly is. Looking production ready and being production ready are not synonymous.

Sounds stupid, but i'm glad to see them use the color screen for something else then the GPS.
My disappointment was huge when it seemed that I have to do everything except navigation on that stupid monochrome screen

Who cares? When Ford sells Volvo will they sell this tech. with it? Probably not, so this Volvo will never hit the streets. BTW, the C30 isn't that good of a seller anyway. If the car isn't selling well will the electric version be that much better?

Do you still want an electric Volvo if the batteries are assembled by 8-year old who work 16 hour days?
I'm assuming you're ignoring all the components in most cars that are also assembled in China? Why focus on the batteries, or Volvo?
Impending sale to the Chinese overlords.
Also, hey look! It's a tongue in my cheek.
