Report: Mercedes to introduce diesel-hybrid E-class in 2011
The newly introduced E-class is expected to use the same powertrain that was in the C300 concept with a 204 horsepower twin-turbocharged 2.2-liter four cylinder diesel. This would be paired with a mild hybrid system, also seen in the S400, that uses a lithium ion battery. The combination could get up to 47 mpg (U.S.) on the EU combined test cycle. This would be one of the first production light duty diesel hybrids, along with with the Peugeot 3008 that is also coming in 2011.
