Tommy Kaira Toyota Prius – Click above for high-res image gallery

Hybrids aren't exactly known for being the sportiest vehicles on the road, but that doesn't mean their owners don't want to look as good as possible behind the wheel. As such, perhaps it shouldn't be too surprising that Japanese tuning companies are jumping on the gas-electric bandwagon almost as quickly as the automakers themselves.

Chief among those hybrid tuners is Tommy Kaira, which has released a slew of new bodykit bits, suspension upgrades and wheel options for both the 2010 Toyota Prius (which we saw teasers of previously) and Honda Insight. We'll leave it up to you to decide if the add-ons add up to an improvement in the wedge-shaped hybrid hatchbacks. In any case, click here to see the whole kit and caboodle for the Prius and here for the Insight.

Really want to see the TRD Prius and Mugen Insight.

Not sure how much of a market there is for something like these, as I would assume that most Prius/Insight owners are more concerned about saving money on gas and/or making a socio-political statement than the raw performance of their vehicles.

On a purely aesthetic note...vertical foglights on a vehicle, ANY vehicle, just look really awkward.

"The Prius is one of if not THE most environmentally unfriendly cars produced. When you factor in the damage to the environment from producing the batteries and the disposal of same."

You STILL believe in this CRAP? For God's sake, the "Hummer is cleaner than the Prius" myth was debunked long time ago. What a complete heap of nonsense from a Hummer driving, flag weaving, gun-toting, fat pig breeder. You're so dumb you can't even notice it.

      What ?

A riceball requires a 4 inch fart pipe, 22 inch wheels, neon lights and a full scale rear wing.

First though is to chop 30% off the gas pedal and a disclaimer that all those hot joysticker mods weight will decrease battery life by 40 miles a charge.

I've always wanted to buy a Prius, weld a RWD tube frame chassis with some ridiculously powerful V8 engine in it, then put the Prius body over the chassis. I think it'd turn more than a few heads to see the huge rear tires and the rumble of a real 'hybrid'.

Plus it'd play nicely into my finely tuned sense of irony.

And don't forget folks: using canvas bags at the grocery store, buying smaller houses, turning off the lights/television/electronics, walking around more, carpooling, staying in and watching a movie instead of driving around and going out, etc. do contribute quite a bit towards being 'green'.

      Ugh.

      Four exhaust tips.

      On a hybrid.

Does anyone else see the discrepancy here?

I love the Pruis front end and the overall package looks good. Tasteful mods...it would looks killer if the paint was black.

Im not comment on how the Insight looks...because it looks like a freaking Pruis. I was driving with my friend and he point to what he thought was the new Pruis...but it was the insight. (palm to face)

Ever worse....I was in a honda dealer with too of my friends because on was picking up his brand new Fit. There was a Insight on the showroom floor...and then it happened. My friend asked " What is a Pruis doing in here, isnt that a Toyota" ....so sad. I shock my head no and corrected him and informed him what the Insight was.

Prius serves one purpose as a car and one purpose only: It is high MPG transportation. If Toyota has done their job providing this, there is no reason to screw with it. That said, it's hideous. But I can certainly appreciate it for the appliance that it is and the best at what it does.

I want it in flat black. It would be nice to have one of these.

You tree huggers just don't get it. The Prius is one of if not THE most environmentally unfriendly cars produced. When you factor in the damage to the environment from producing the batteries and the disposal of same. When in an accident the fireman don't want to help for fear of being shocked or burned. If you want to help us all stay off the road.

Does Tommy include a bag with the kit to put over your head while driving?
While I think that tuning appearance kits are silly in general, that doesn't look half-bad. An improvement over stock anyway. Kinda curious how it will affect fuel economy, though.
