Hey good lookin' - Click above for high-res image gallery

USA Today looked at cars on sale between 2000 and 2009 and ranked them in order of most improved. Before you get hot and heavy in the comments, let us remind you that they are only talking about the way the cars look. Not how they perform. Trust us, there will be plenty for you to get angry about as is.

We noticed that there were a few cars USA Today left off the list that the vehicular brain trust here at the blog about autos thinks are very much improved. The Ford Taurus being one example. Sure, the new Taurus is large, but the old Taurus (aka Ford 500) was a bulbous bore.

But our real choice is the Maserati Gran Turismo, especially as the last generation Maser GT looked, well, lousy. Or at least like something Maserati might have sold when Chrysler owned them. That said, take a peek at the gallery, and discuss USA Today's list amongst yourselves.

I'm probably going to take crap for this but I think the new Prius is the best looking Toyota vehicle being made. That's not saying much but there it is. And they are spot on with the C-Class. Best looking MB in years. Looks NOTHING like a Sebring! What are you guys smoking?

As for the rest of the list, some definite misses there...
I think the Prius looks just fine, and rightfully belongs on the list. I don't think the rest of their cars are ugly, per se, just plain. There's a big difference between "ugly" and "plain looking". And because they're everywhere you darn tired of looking at them, and suddenly everyone hates them. But honestly, the Camry is not ugly in the Aztek/Crosstour sense. It's inoffensive, but it's proportional, fluid and the design works. Even the bangle butt is done well.

The Corolla is boring, sure, but it's not ugly. I think the Matrix looks good - sporty, aggressive. It's too bad the performance doesn't match the looks. The RAV4 and Sienna I think are the best looking in their class. The Venza has style and also stands out in a good way. The 4Runner is quirky looking as always. The Land Cruiser is still a brute. Nothing has changed. I'd say the Sequoia is the ugliest Toyota.

FWIW Toyotas have never been trendsetters. 1990 Camry/Corolla? 2000 Camry/Corolla? Boring/Boring. So to say that it's a new trend that Toyotas aren't trendsetting with styling is disingenuous. The Supra and perhaps the last Celica were styling standouts.

I agree with you. I don't think the Prius is good looking, but seen in person it looks better than the rest of Toyota's disasterous designs. This version also does look better than the last, so I guess that is an "improvement".

I've just never been a fan of the "melted" look present on all their other models. To me it is ugly. It makes them look droopy and lazy. This is least apparent on the Prius.

I don't get this at all. What Cadillac - exactly - is the CTS coupe better looking than? I don't remember any small Cadillac coupe from the year 2000. And speaking of that - shouldn't the list be comparing model year 2000 cars with model year 2010 cars? And only IF the same model is being made TODAY that was being made 10 years ago. In other words - is the 2010 Taurus better looking than the 2000 Taurus - or not?! It shoudn't matter what came in between. Otherwise - it's not really a 'decades most improved looking vehicles' list. At least that's how I see it.

The CTS Coupe isn't the one that was named in the article, it was just the CTS in general, presumably the sedan. AB just put in a CTS Coupe pic because they like the look of it so much. At least that's what I surmise from the caption in the gallery.

Perhaps the Saturn Vue is most improved since it has now been rendered extinct

The Suzuki Grand Vitara looks far better than the original Grand Vitara. It's also easily the most beautiful SUV (real SUV, not CUV) of this generation.

And yet they choose the Kia Sportage and Saturn Vue? Over the GV's rugged stance, tough headlamps, and handsomely angular silhouette?

Methinks these guys don't know how an SUV is supposed to look.

        @Governor Depoy
When did Suzuki start making cars?
        @Governor Depoy
        1985 for the US.

Swift, Samurai, Sidekick, Esteem, Aerio... any of those ring a bell?

How can anyone say the prius has improved?? It still looks terrible as well as anything from toyota. I agree with UCJR, toyota and honda, ( throw in nissan), have ruined their line up. The japs don't know anything about styling. Ford and GM have improved a great deal on their styling, and are the front runners. What about Dodge or Chevy trucks??? They have improved a great deal in the looks department. Since this article is about vehicles, (not just cars), you have to include trucks. The sonata has improved a great deal, but still lacks compared to American cars. Even if you don't like the CTS, it has improved greatly, since they beefed up the front grill. Mercedes has always been, and still is ugly. BMW and Jaguar are heads above them. Just my opinion. Thank you.
Saying "japs" shows how neanderthal you are. I stopped reading your post right at that.
Yeah, as a rule, I find that MSM outlets do TERRIBLE jobs of reporting on the car industry.

Most of their reporting is totally inane and factually inaccurate.

As for this list, I happen to agree with most of it. I just wish they'd mentioned that design was the criteria, not overall improvements.
I'd add most of the Jaguar lineup, the new Camaro, all of Volvo.

      What about the Taurus
Yes, you're right, there was an 09 taurus but it was a turd... I'm sure they made a simple requirement when starting this list that they would only include model years '00 thru '09

Not sure why you are confused.
If they do another list in 10 years you should see the taurus on it then.
The new taurus is a 2010, and 2010 is the start of the NEXT decade...

U.S.A. economy in trouble! what do you drive?
I don't know about the Toyota Prius still looks like a retarded baby elephant with its trunk chop off.
It still screams, "I'm an ecomentalist who knows nothing of driving."
couldn't they have at least provided "before" pictures as well?
