The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is a very capable police cruiser that just happens to also be an extremely desirable Italian exotic. How many police cruisers can go 200 mph while toting a vital organ in its specially made refrigerated storage? While Lambo and the Italian State Police thought of all kinds of neat amenities to make the LP560-4 the perfect cruiser, they neglected to install an idiot detection device and now they're paying the ultimate price.

One of two Gallardo LP560-4 Polizias is ready for the scrap heap after a careless Seat Ibiza driver pulled out of a gas station without first looking for $200,000 police car. The undoubtedly surprised driver of the Gallardo swerved to avoid the oblivious one and smashed into a row of parked cars. The wedge-like Gallardo hit the cars so hard that one vehicle actually ended up on top (see above) of the ultimate Pig-mobile, crushing the front end. Luckily, the police officer and his passenger were unhurt in the incident. Ironically, the police issue Gallardo was on its way home from a safe driving seminar when the accident occurred.

What a bummer. The cop driving the car was one of 20 officers specially trained to handle the Gallardo's awesome V10 power. Now that the world's neatest police cruiser is scrap-worthy, he'll likely have to go back to driving a Fiat. Thanks for the tips, everyone!!

well when i was in venice last month, i got to see that the carbinieri get to drive nice alfa 159s anyway, not as good as a lambo i know, but still better than the astras you get in the UK!
heh at least it didn't spontaneously combust

A gas station? So without any obstacles around it? Generally good visibility?

So what was the *police* driver looking at instead of the traffic around him?

So the cop says. I mean seriously, if a cop was being a douchebag and crashed the car, would he really man up to it? Yea right.

A sad end to a gorgeous car. It may have been 'unnecessary' but if I was an officer given the choice between this and, well, whatever the Italian police normally drive, I'd probably choose the Lamborghini.

Too bad Italy doesn't like the death penalty. This is a crime in the highest order.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the damaged exotic.

      It's... Just... Not... Fair... ;-(

What's up with all the grammatical and factual errors in the article?

      -It's not an LP560-4, it's a normal Gallardo.

-"...without first looking for $200,000 police car."

The whole article is written rather unprofessionally. Come on Autoblog, you're better than this.

Ummm.... the car pictured isn't an LP560-4, notice the front bumper

"Now that the world's neatest police cruiser is scrap-worthy, he'll likely have to go back to driving a Fiat."

Actually, 90% of police cars in Italy, especially Rome, are Alfa 159's.

Except Montalbano who is stuck with his crappy Tipo.

      That'll buff right out.

        Damn those aftermarket floor mats!

because the force of the crash would have been exactly the same, yes?
I mean, relative speed between vehicles is only something nerds at volvo try to cut down as much as possible for no good reason, right?

also, you would seriously ram into a moving car, which is guaranteed to have at least one person in it, rather than against a parked car?
When a car pulls out infront of you in America, you don't ram it. Why? B/c you turn the wheel to avoid the accident. The same thing happened to this officer, unfortunately, the streets were crowded and he zigged when he shoulda zagged. Accidents happen.

        Steven,

        I'm with you

if I had a choise i'd hit the car that made the dumb move rather than swerve and get another innocent driver into an accident.

It should be the dumbassss that did not look that deserved to get hit and not someoneelse minding their business driving right that get's hurt.
Preferably the hit should be right on the drivers door so that he could remember it for the rest of his dumb life
        • 5 Years Ago
The cop didn't swerve around the idiotic driver like Autoblog said, the driver actually clipped the lambo.

ok, a car is coming right at you. what do you do. split second. you swerve to avoid the car coming at you no matter how fast its going. you dont Know for certain that you will hit another vehicle, but that chance is better then ramming right into the other car coming at you.

Its tragic that this happened to such an awesome car. He was not at fault, it just turned out bad for the lambo.
