REPORT: Citroen Revolte concept to enter production as DS2
Sometimes we're happy when a concept car gets approved for production. This time around... not so much. According to reports from across the pond, the Citroen Revolte concept has been approved for production and will carry the DS2 badge when it arrives.
The concept car was unveiled a couple of months ago at the Frankfurt show, and suffice it to say, it wasn't exactly the best looking debut at the expo. Supposedly reviving the iconic 2CV, the Revolte concept certainly lived up to its name. The production version, meanwhile, is tipped to take on the DS2 nameplate as part of the French automaker's new premium line-up that started with the DS3 and is slated to grow with the inclusion of the DS4 (based on the upcoming new C4) and DS5 (based on – you guessed it – the new C5). Power for the DS2 is expected to come in the form of a range of three-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines when it hits the streets sometime around 2011.
The best we can say is this: At least it will remain far away from the States, as Citroen stays out of the North American market.

Revolting! They should be ashamed for cannibalizing the illustrious DS moniker.

I beat you ALL to it months ago when the design for this car first hit the Autoblog interwebs.
Such an easy pun, I'm almost ashamed to admit I said it.

I like it a lot. Very creative. May not be your cup of tea, but it has its own odd grace (as Citroens should) and none of the clumsy disjointedness of failed efforts like the Aztec.

Because nothing really says "premium car" quite like a three-cylinder diesel engine.

Yeah, too bad they did't make some big a## 4 tons pickup truck with 8.2 engine and 200bhp to satisfy the American fine automotive critique.

Looks like a fruity, LSD version of the Audi A1.

Kinda looks like a Bugatti concept. Something about the front facia that reminds me of a Bugatti.

while I don't like some details of the front end (specially the bumpers) those won't make it to production.
Otherwise I don't see what is bringing the harsh criticism really. It has character and a very nice profile.
Regarding the comment from Ninjin:
1) in europe cars must have at least one usually several diesel options, this is true for premium or not premium car, to put this in context in 2008 in France 77.3% of new registrations were diesel
2) three cylinders are more and more common for small cars again premium or not, this is part of a very strong downsizing trend. A few years back you wouldn't have found any here.

Wow slams of the USA automotive industry and us Americans? Did anyone say it was bad because it was a French car, no, it's just bad.
Alex... it's a c@p design. I'm an American and I don't relish big a$$ trucks and if we did make a big a$$ truck it wouldn't have a wimpy 200hp engine. Such stupidity in your remarks makes me wonder if you are that narrow minded in all phases of your life?
Greg if you like it that's kool but I think your analogy of the Aztek, a sad statement of US car design, is funny 'cuz it's spot on for this "Disjointed" mashup. Looks like a transformer that is in transition.

@ twistedbitz...
no it is not. see the design analysis by suspekt360. look at the details. you may not like the overall look and it is kool that it is not for you...but do try to get past the color and see why some of us could possibly prefer an innovative, unique, creative presence in a ride.

So perhaps it's not the most gorgeous design out there, but hell, it's certainly one of the most distinct! I happen to think this is a very cool looking car. So many automakers lack originality these days, so seeing something like this that is unique in its design is quite refreshing. This will definitely be successful - albeit in small numbers - for people who want not just to get from point A to point B, but make a fashion statement as well.

@asheps91... wow an intelligent review. While I agree that the euro box with the mean face grills and the american stuck in the past is a sad comment on automotive design I really find this vehicle distasteful in so many ways.

Why don't the french bring out that new 2CV that was reported awhile back? Much better idea and has some history.

The author of this comment just proved he has no business being involved in the "design analysis" business for automobiles....
Out of all the cars that debuted at the Frankfurt Autoshow, this is one of the few that actually attempted to take auto design in a new direction as Citroen has done many times over the years with their concepts....
For me, this model kept me glued to the screen for quite a while as I sorted out all the details surrounding the design. Maybe one could call into the question the cohesiveness of the overall design but have a look at:
- the absolutely hypnotic light clusters front and rear
- the a-pillar
- the front light cut seam in the body... so simple, so clever, so unique
- the new design direction for the integration of the cars front grill with the rest of the body.... reminds me somewhat of the original scirocco concept a few years back
- on and on
this car is dripping with innovative design and the author of this article just has no clue.. honestly, not a clue

Womens say they like this car. About 35-45% of drivers are womens. To them it's the perfect car. I think it's better idea to try to sell a car to the 1/3 of the total drivers with a design they like, rather than trying to sell something to everyone they didn't like.
