REPORT: C/D says Lutz confirms Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon
Between the Buick Regal GS, front-wheel drive (and possible hybrid) Chevrolet Impala and the rumored Caprice SS, Bob Lutz has managed to release a scad officially unofficial details on General Motors' future product plans over the last two days. And now comes this.
Speaking with Car and Driver, Maximum Bob went into Maximum Bloviation mode when discussing the Buick Regal wagon, and then ostensibly confirmed that the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon has been given the green light by saying, "You'll be able to get the CTS-V any way you want." Meaning: the CTS-V will be available in both coupe and five-door variants.
Naturally, anything that jumps out of Lutz' mouth should be taken with an extra helping of NaCl, as his past off-hand announcements haven't always come to fruition. Regardless, creating the duo of CTS-Vs is damn easy and we're hoping to see both in production form next year.

*crosses his fingers* There aren't any new Magnums anymore, so when the time comes to replace my 05 RT, I'm hoping a V variant of the wagon is available. If so, Cadillac, you get a new customer who has never purchased a GM product before.

It will be my first GM purchase since 1973....if the stealer is reasonable about MSRP. ROFLMFAO!
It won't be my purchase if experience with GM dealers is any precedent.

Magnum is a horrible car, i rented it out once, it is a HUGE car but has limited seating and limited space in the trunk, one would think that a wagon would have a lot of storage room.
Audio is positioned in a way that people in the front complain that it is weak while people in the back complain that is it is too loud, speakers emit sound right into the ears of back passengers.
MPG is poor and the interior plastics are cheap.
Also because this is a rear wheel drive car, the bump in the back allows only two passengers to be seated there, 3 people can easily seat in the back of the much smaller Civic or Corolla.
I sure hope Cadillac makes a much better wagon and i really would like to see a wagon in a Chevy Malibu price range from GM.

I don't know what the condition of your rental was, but I have a large, comfortable car that roars on the road, goes quick when I need to, and is universally loved by those who ride in it. The cargo space is easy to configure, and yes, the trunk space is smaller than many wagons, but it has to do with the style -- and it has style in spades. I have not had any issue with the audio. I set it up when I got it to emit the sound I'd like, and I do have the premium stereo, and it sounds great in front and in back.
The MPG is poor, I agree. With my lead foot, I average about 18mpg. When I'm traveling long distances, I get 25mpg. On the other hand, I don't have a 125hp Civic. Thank god.

The currently airing commercials are for the regular CTS wagon.
Lutz just announced the arrival of the go-fast CTS-V wagon.
I think it's an awesome move, however as usual, the car enthusiast community is going to be all thrilled about the move
... there are going to be tons of people posting that they are going to buy it
... and then it turns into another sales flop.
Just like for the G8 and countless other similar cars.
One big positive is that this wagon is not meant to be a high-volume seller, and it will be cheap to develop and bring to market so even if sales are very low (which is to be expected), it could still be a big money maker for GM.

@ oZ: I want to buy this car as well when it comes out, it sounds pretty awesome. I wonder when the coupe is going to be out there but I would rather get the wagon than the coupe. I wonder how this wagon will go against the Audi RS6 Avant.

I actually almost had a mental breakdown and considered buying a Buick Roadmaster Estate, then gas went to $1.45 a litre or $5.48 Canadian a US gallon. That quickly kiboshed that little dream.
Kudos for Cadillac to come out with a wagon that is that attractive but you won't see me at the local Cadillac dealer anytime soon, as its service department is the pits. They once told me to take my Chevy Tracker to a Suzuki dealer, as it was wasting their time.

Gramps? I'm 30! Considered a Ford Flex during cash for clunkers, but even a car that big couldnt swallow a 4x8 sheet. I'd drive that sexy beast in a second though, and have the lumber delivered.

Still have mine, and I still love it. Shame about GM's plastics and leather - they're getting pretty worn. But the LT-1 is still singing and the 4L60E is still shifting fine.
Lutz, get your head outta your azz and build a full-sized wagon. Let the hyphenated last named metrosexual grooming product guys buy the "Touring" wagons. Give me the plywood haulers anyday.
