REPORT: All GM brands to go on sale this week

The holidays are coming and everything must go! So says GM's VP of sales Susan Docherty. "All of our efforts will be to sell down our remaining 2009 inventory." Docherty is expecting all the 2009 cars to be cleared out by January, 2010. The big sales, starting this week, each get their own names. Chevy is having a "Red Tag Sale," Buick-GMC are going with "Holiday Event" and tip of the top Caddy is using, "Seasons Best."
As it happens, that's right about the time that Pontiac and Saturn are set to wander off into the sunset -- for good. As of right now, there's only about 10,000 Pontiacs and 8,000 Saturns left on dealer lots. "We're actually winding down those products quicker than we had anticipated," said Docherty. Curiously, there's no mention of what GM will be calling the Pontiac and Saturn sales, though "Get 'Em While They're On Fire!" has a certain ring to it.

I wonder if Camaro prices will finally descend from the stratosphere?
No?
Thought not...

wait two years and watch their value assume its rightful place. Based on my coworker who is still orgasming over hers one moment and bitching about GM quality the next I can't see them holding their value.

Wasn't the point of C4C to get rid of the 09 inventory.

American public was smart enough not to trade in a clunker for a clunker.

Yes Aznauto I agree, I'm one of those who refused to trade my piece of crap for another overpriced piece of crap!! : ] & Sea Urchin I guess if people had the money to buy a new car it might of worked, but they keep forgetting most people in the US are in no position right now to purchase a new vehicle....they run scared =0 after looking at the sticker prices!! Even their so called sale prices are a joke! I laughed all the way back to my truck & out of the parking lot before one of the vultures could catch me & try to run that "This car is so YOU" line on me!! LOL They just kill me...I guess it still works with some women? & No that comment was not meant to put women down...been there myself years ago! How I ended up w/ the biggest lemon I have ever owned, a Renault Fuego(s/p?)...voted worst car of the year back then! Yea they got me! but I sure looked good in it driving off the lot...as they laughed their a$$es off!! Ahhh, we live and learn!

Pontic & Saturn:
The GM Good Luck With the Resale, Service and Parts Pontiac/ Saturn sales event.
AKA: Thanks Suckers Sale
PS: I know Pontiac and Saturn parts are interchangeable with other GM brands and that the US government will back the warranties if/ when GM decides not to.

Can you please tell me what other GM products share parts with a Pontiac Vibe, Pontiac Wave, Saturn Astra, or a Saturn Aura?
While certain high volume parts like brakes or struts will be available for years to come, getting the obscure and model specific little parts could be a nightmare. Even the aftermarket will be hesitant to supply low volume parts like trim pieces.
I was under the understanding that auto companies had to provide parts for 7 years after a model is discontinued, but have since found that auto companies aren't legislated to carry parts for any of their cars for any length of time.

Difficult if all you want is GM brands -- however, the Vibe is a Toyota Matrix, the Wave is a Daewoo Kalos (or Chevy Aveo if you must), the Astra is a... well, an Opel Astra (selling well in Mexico). Only the Aura is problematic.

The Aura and the G6 use the same mechanicals as the Malibu.

The headline makes it seem that all of the GM brands themselves are being put on sale.

Yeah, I know. When I first read the headline I paused in shock. Had to re-read it a few more times.

"Red Tag Sale" don't they have one of those every 6 months or so? Big Deal, it'll still depreciate it's ass off almost immediately.

depreciates almost as quickly as a luxury car.
now that's a marketing slogan
tellitlikeitis 10:09AM (11/17/2009)
Yep Pradden, you are so RIGHT!! & then strap yourself in, sit back & watch em start to fall apart from the horrible quality of parts & pieces..or crap & more crap as I like to refer to it, they throw in them to keep the price down, & sadly a lot is not so apparent upon looking it over when new car shopping, like the clothe seats, visors, hood & rear door latches, electric mirrors, leaking windows, etc.(I could go on forever, I wish I had a dime for everytime I heard a mechanic say, "Oh yea, we have had the same problem with so many of these models, it's not just your vehicle", SHEEEzzzz!! It makes my head want to spin around!! Oh & then get ready for all the things that just stop working within the first year or so for no apparent reason, except it's just SH*T!!!(mainly GM to be exact, haha I'm sure most people have already figured that one out by now, esp. if they have ever bought one, Ex: Jimmy SLS, Grand Am, Yukon, Wave, Vibe, some of the Suburbans(depends on your luck usually) & several others I can't think of at the moment, but have also heard horror stories from friends...no wonder they stopped making most of them, even they knew they were CRAP!!) worst cars/SUV I have ever purchased & I have purchased quite a few new cars! Not anymore, I think I will go the used route from now on, that is as soon as I drive this piece of crap GM I have now until the wheels fall off!lol...I will never get what its worth because of rising gas prices, even though I have kept the mileage very low & taken care of it as best as I possible could. So, I would rather drive it to the bitter end than give it away!! Esp. since I don't have to do a lot of driving right now, so the gas prices don't effect me quite as bad as someone who had to commute 50mi. to work & back. Yes, someone should have slapped some sense back into me after the first one I bought, but not as bad as this last time when I got reamed! I actually thought they might have gotten better w/ time & tweaking... Hell they got worse!! Even with the discount I get for being a family member of someone who gets dealers price, since they worked for a company who owned stock in GM, (actually one of the main reason I bought the vehicles to begin with, esp. the last one) You couldn't give me another one of those Big Fat Lemons on wheels....I would sell it & buy something that actually didn't fall apart as soon as I drove it off the lot! Yes I know some of the vehicles I mentioned ealier are older GM model cars trucks or SUV's because I personally haven't purchased a newer one in a while, but from what I have heard & seen from friends, family & other people who have bought GM recently, most are still made of horrible quality. Oh & don't even get me started on the GM service dept. in the last 10 years...what a joke! My daughter could do a better job than those dingalings just punching in everyday to get a pay check, because it sure isnt to fix your car properly, more like to tear it up in the process! Maybe to keep you coming back over & over?? Then they try to make you feel like an A$$ when you complain that your brand new car has just been trashed while having work done or having something replaced that fortunately was still under warranty! No wonder they went down, I hate to say, but after all I have seen & experienced, they did it to themselves & got exactly what they deserved.... when you put out crap and treat your loyal customers like crap, your not going to get much in return but crap...your just lucky the government was there to wipe your butt!....Buy Ford, atleast the Government & Police Dept. know where the better cars & trucks are!! I hate & refuse to give my money to a foriegn car manufacturer...esp. when our country needs it more, even if their cars are made better...just can't do it! I would rather keep a Ford employee working, than buy something that I can never find a mechanic who works on them w/o having to drive 2-3 hours! sorry for the long post...sore subject for me!
