Now that the new Lotus Evora has been successfully launched in Europe, it's time to start delivering the new model to U.S. Lotus dealers. Production of U.S.-spec cars will be starting shortly so Lotus has finally defined a price point for the car beginning at $73,200. For that price you get the 276-hp Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 and a 6-speed gearbox.

Unlike the minimalist Elise and Exige, the Evora is fully trimmed out in a fashion someone might expect of a $73,200 car, including hand-stitched leather from Muirhead and aluminum trim that hints at the structure under the plastic skin. The tiller is adjustable for reach and rake, which, along with the larger size of the car, should make getting in and out much easier than in the Exige. Final EPA numbers haven't been published yet, but the Evora is expected to top 30 mpg on the highway while the 0-60 time will be just 4.9 seconds.

While Evora production for the UK and European markets has been ramping up for months to begin fulfilling their orders, production for the US and Canadian markets has yet to begin. Though the Evora has only been shown on a few occasions thus far in the US and Canada, approximately the first two months of production are already pre-sold. To enable more sports car aficionados an opportunity to see the Evora in person, starting Friday, November 13 two Evoras will embark on a 44 dealer Open House Tour of the US.

The Lotus Evora in Summary

The Lotus Evora will enter the sports car market as the only mid-engine 2+2 in production. Evora is designed for people who desire the exotic sports car characteristics of stunning design, exclusivity, dramatic proportions and performance. However, it offers real-world usability, surprising efficiency and a unique sense of occasion as well.

Powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 276 hp at 6,400 rpm and 258 lb./ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm, the Evora employs innovative lightweight chassis technology to ensure all-around exceptional dynamic performance, in keeping with the great Lotus tradition. From its beginning over 60 years ago, Lotus' consistent guiding principle has been to achieve 'performance through lightweight' and that's always meant all facets of performance including efficiency. The Evora provides unassailable proof of this ethos as the only regular production car in the world capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 mph in under 5 seconds (4.9), on up to a top speed over 160 mph (162) while also delivering 30+ miles per gallon on the highway.

Inside the Evora simplicity meets sophistication in an exquisite combination of detailing and hand-built craftsmanship. By using only the finest leather from renowned experts Muirhead, the interior is hand-trimmed and twin-stitched to create a beautifully tactile and visually striking environment.         I can't argue about generic power output. Sure, the Corvette makes more HP.

        But, the Cayman makes LESS HP than the Corvette and is faster around Laguna Seca than the Vette. I'd be willing to bet the Evora is faster, too.

        Move past the "power = performance" BS. The Evora is designed better. It's more up-to-date. It's cheaper to insure, too.

        In terms of design, you're telling me that a backhoe is designed better than a garbage truck, simply because it makes more torque.

      funny to see the illustration side view showing a person in the front and back seat. There is no seat-back behind the driver, and the passengers knees are up inside the drivers back.
      The back seat is just for babyseats, like the 911. That said, I would take this configuration over a 911 any day. I wonder how it stacks up against the 911 and the Caymen.

        Sparrk - have you seen someone sit in the back seat of an Evora? Or are you just going by the pics?
        Caymen S may be more luxurios, but how? I see allot of leather in that Evora, nothing looks like cheap plastic to me. Have you seen the Evora interior in person?
        Sounds better? Have you heard the Evora?
        Personally, I cant wait for the preview coming up, so I will get to see & hear these things first hand. Maybe you already got a preview somehow.

        I have read the Caymen S has driver feedback that is isolated. I am sure the Lotus will have the opposite experience from that.

        @Larry , the Cayman won a quite a few best driver's car awards, i found it really fun to drive. as for place in the back at the Evora watch the Fifth Gear test, you answer is at 3:10 in this video :

        @ Larry , looks are subjective , i think the Evora looks too generic and the fact that the once mighty Lotus doesn't build they own engines anymore is a turn off for me.

        Porsche never said the engine at the back is the best idea , they even tried to kill the 911 , but the fans were against it so Porsche does their best to make the car better in spite of it's "flaw" and the 911 is the most successful racing car ever , last year alone it won ALMS , LMS and FIA GT in it's category, beating front and mid engined cars. the 911 is dangerous for the untrained, but fun and rewarding for someone who wants to learn how it works and it becomes addictive.

        anyway , as far as the Cayman vs Evora , it's personal preferences , but as i said , don't believe what Clarkson says , Tiff Needell is the better source of information like the video i posted earlier with the Cayman test.

        you can actually put 2 average sized women in the back of a 911 without problems , i do it all the time in mine. but you can't put a human in the back of a Evora , except maybe baby seats.

        the Cayman S is lighter , more powerful and more luxurious than the Evora. it also sounds better.

      I'm a big fan of the Exige and Elise, and this car is probably just as good while offering a lot more comfort. Plus the Toyota engines have worked out pretty well in the other two cars, should be pretty good in this car and hell reliable to boot.

      I know it's a Lotus but my first thought was this looks a lot like I'd image a Tesla coupe would. If they aren't sisters, the Evora and the Roadster they're certainly related and what great genes they have. ;)

      and yes I'm fully aware of their business dealings using Lotus parts/factory with Tesla.
