Oh, No! Porsche Design revives Yoko's iconic sunglasses
While the Porsche 911 stands as one of the most ubiquitous and storied sports cars of all time, another Porsche design was made popular by one particular individual.
Throughout the Eighties, Yoko Ono wore the original Porsche Design shades so often they became known as the Yoko Ono sunglasses. She wore them at press conferences, for photo shoots (including the cover of Rolling Stone magazine) and on the covers of her albums. Now the German carmaker's Austrian product design studio has brought the design back back as the P'8479.
The shield-style visor is supported by a Beta-Titanium frame secured by visible screws for an iconic retro look that may not be our cup of tea exactly, but we just hope their presence doesn't break up the VW merger like Yoko broke up The Beatles.

PRESS RELEASE:
Reissue of a Porsche Design Classic
Yoko Ono Sunglasses available again
Stuttgart/Munich. Porsche Design stands for functional, timeless and purist design. Since the brand's foundation in 1972 it has created countless products that have gone on to become classics. One particular milestone is the sports sunglasses from Porsche Design, available again from now as the P'8479. State of the art modern materials have been used for the new edition, with Beta-Titanium, a favourite material for space travel technology, ensuring lightweight flexibility.
The sporty, 80s style shield sunglasses were made famous by Yoko Ono. The artist wore them for the first time at a press conference in 1979. After that, Ono was seen in the Porsche Design glasses so often that the P'8479 is now primarily known as
the Yoko Ono sunglasses. Among other appearances, the singer was pictured wearing them on the cover of "Rolling Stone" magazine as well as on the record sleeves of "Yes, I'm a witch" (2007) and "It's alright" (1982). In addition, Yoko Ono wore the sunglasses on a photo shoot for the fashion magazine, "New York".
Porsche Design is a luxury brand with particular focus on technically inspired products. The brand was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, and since then its products have stood for functional, timeless and purist design. The product
portfolio includes classic men's accessories, a sport and fashion collection as well as electronic products and a men's fragrance range. They look like McGiver put a frame around the roll-out UV blocking lens the eye doctor gives you when they dilate your pupils.

S---, I was worried I'd stuff that up.

Porsche, instead of wasting your resources and marketing on this, why don't you put more effort into making SUV's and sedans that don't look like mutant 911s.
GOT 11:42PM (11/14/2009)
Agreed. This is a part of retro that should be left dead as it was originally.

Porsche design is not affiliated with Porsche motorcars. They are not one and the same.

These glasses should come with a warning: "Wearing these glasses may cause one to go bat$!t crazy and sing very, very poorly."

Somethings Retro should just stay dead!

it's kinda sickening these days how everything "new" is just a rehash of something retro.
They look ugly and cheap, but I'm sure the price tag will be $500+ dollars just because there is a sucker born every minute.

first of all, Yoko did NOT break up the Beatles. second of all, the sunglasses ARE iconic and hot beyond belief. i just wish i could afford even a cheap knockoff version. and lastly, Yoko has more artistic and musical talent in her little finger than any of the craptastic 'talents' out there today like Kanye, the Simpson sluts and 99% of the 'Top 100' listened to today.
Yoko rules and so do these sunglasses.

Especially this gay-unit garbage which is the absolute worst, out of all of the crapfest today, this has got to be the most painful to endure.

He is right, that the glasses are iconic and may be right that Yoko did not break up the Beatles. But as far as Yoko having talent, aw HELL no!

Is it me or porsche should stop wasting time on other than car engineering , they really should join all of there engineers and make a 911 turbo that is faster than a R35 GTR on a race track , and less expensive on the wallet , dont you think ?
