Finns crashing with pure engine sounds - Click above to watch the video

It's often said that the Finns are drunk and walk around carrying axes the best rally drivers in the world. There's been lots of speculation as to why. Some say it's their relative isolation -- large distances between places makes for lots of fast, back roads driving. Others speculate it's their tough Viking blood that makes the Finns fearless in the face of death. Still others feel it's the sheer boredom of living in Finland that fosters a devil may care attitude towards life and limb.

But after watching this video, we have a new theory. The Finns are the world's best rally drivers because they crash so dang much. We're not kidding. If practice makes perfect then the country of Finland as a whole is... well, we can't say perfect now can we? Watch for yourself, after the jump.

i love how badass the trees are. like the ones at the end where they hit like a tiny corner of the car and flips them over. :-) Car: "Out of the way mofo!" Tree: "f u, get off me!"

All of the yells and screams of the onlookers is the best
        • 5 Years Ago
Seriously they are cheering and celebrating.

At first its a bit scary to see cars barrel roll into trees at 70 mph.

Then you get used it, and its awesome.

And you know she's probably considered hot in her home town.

I loved the cheers and watching different cars get screwed in the same place over and over...

Undenyable proof that rallying (along with the Isle of Man TT) is the most badass form of motorsport

3:05-3:30...if those were supplied pacenotes, I get the feeling someone forgot to include 'caution' on that turn.

I have seen a couple of these clips on YouTube, and supposedly there is a rally competition where the drivers race without any pacenotes or without any recce round. Imagine that!

Also, I am surprised there were TWO clips of cars crashing AFTER the stage had ended. I thought that only happened when I play video games....

Speaking of which, I now want to fire up Richard Burns Rally again. Cya. =)

Agreed. With multiple drivers going off on the same turn, I have to think that there was a problem with the pace notes.

Did anyone else notice that at 2:45, the car rolls 7 times? That matches the world record set by the Aston Martin DBS in Casino Royale, without the help of an air cannon. It should be a new world record in its own respect.

I learned that I don't want to be a tree in Finland.

Lol - the Civic crash at 4:50 and the Ford crash at 5:40 are the lamest ever.
I just have one word to say. Epic!
Honestly I would just use a chainsaw to cut down those trees.

Pretty big shunts... it's nice that they didn't make us suffer through some stupid music. Am I the only one that felt like shedding a few tears though? Those were some pretty cool toys getting balled up. Nothing quite like playing in the dirt...

Never said it was dishonorable, or that they shouldn't be doing it... it just makes me a lil' bit sad to see 'em wrecked, that's all. :)
There's no dishonor in cars dying while in competition.
