VIDEO: Even if the Mercedes E-Class Wagon doesn't handle like a slot car, it can still handle slot cars

First of all, yes – this is pure Mercedes-Benz propaganda. We're fully aware of that fact. Second, despite it all, we're very jealous of what takes place in this video. In order to show off just how much junk you're able to fit inside the new E-Class Wagon -– or "Estate" in Mercedes parlance. How they settled on building a giant slot car track (or more precisely, sneaking it past the corporate money men) is beyond us, but we're glad they did.
So, how much junk? Quite a bit. Specifically, 1,275 pieces of track, including a section that snakes through the E-Class. All told, the track is over 400 meters long (about a quarter mile) and takes the 1/32 scale DTM cars four minutes and forty-seconds to complete. The track layout was designed beforehand on a computer because otherwise, well... they'd still be building it. Watch the full video after the jump.

This is one of the poorest examples of marketing. The whole point was to emphasize the car's carrying capacity, and yet they choose to build a slot car track?! How can one easily relate cargo space to the number and size of slot-car track pieces?! And these people got paid to do this?! Good job, using a computer to design a track for you and using special lighting and cinematic effects to "enhance" what can only be a child's hobby, or an adult's unhealthy fascination.

2. All the previous MB wagons have been dang sweet rides. This is lame looking.

This was the last gen, so I guess it was real then.
It's weird, the guy debadged it from the rear, not even E-class markings, but on the fender it still had the 6.3 badge.

Sorry, but this vid is a great big pile of marketing fail. Their point - "E-Class Wagons can hold a lot of sh!t" - was made in the first 10 seconds of the video. The rest looked like a bunch of dudes taking their assigned task waaaay too seriously. Gosh, don't keep me in suspense, fellas...I hope they can make it all work! Yay, the slot track works!! A true testament to the power of the human spirit, indeed.
