SEMA 2009: Hyundai Genesis Coupes out in force in Vegas

While the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang are the de facto coupes of the show, as suspected, tuners have taken a liking to Hyunda'si Genesis Coupe, with numerous modified examples peppered throughout the show floor.
The 3.8-liter V6 is arguably the better driver, and the Road/Race version in the gallery below is a prime example of the kind of thoughtfully modified Genesis models we've seen while traipsing around the floor. A few minor breathing mods (intake and exhaust), coupled with a new set of wheels, upgraded discs, coilovers, a roll bar and a heavily bolstered Sparco bucket makes it a worthy track car that could pull double-duty on the street.
On the other side of the equation is the GReddy modified 2.0T model hanging out at Hyundai's booth. Despite its contrived "X-Gen Street" moniker, the coupe is a nice blend of show and go, with a GReddy-sourced turbo kit that boosts output to 350 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, dropping its 0-60 mph time to under six seconds. While the graphics package and time attack wing might be a bit much for the street, we're digging the integrated LEDs in the headlamps and the GReddy brakes and 18-inch Volk wheels speak well of its intentions. Dear Autoblog,
It is honestly painful to look through the picture galleries every since the site was changed. If you click a thumbnail.. It should go to that picture... And it shouldn't take they gallery 30sec to load.
Even though AB doesn't listen to its readers... This needs to be fixed...

Agreed. It takes a long time to load the gallery, and it doesn't even show up on my computer at home.(same problems with youtube videos. Yes, I tried to update to the latest version of flash. Many times.) I'm not a fan of the new and improved flash image viewer that a lot of sites are using.

I couldn't agree more, I am glad to see I am not alone. Oh and heaven forbid you try and view these galleries on a smartphone!

Its not autoblog, its the entire bog network including Engadget, Joystiq, and a slew of cooking and finance sites and its all owned by AOL. So send them your complaints, not these journalists.

Yeah, Autoblog's picture galleries are one of the worst out there. It takes a lot to reload and it's confusing. Also, they need to fix their comment system really bad.

I like the Genesis Coupe from the sides and back, but they've got to something with that face. It looks like some dorky drunk guy who just hit on your girlfriend at the bar and he's laughing at your expression the moment before you pound the s*** out of him.

car looks great, but i personally would expect better than "0-60 mph time to under six seconds" performance out of a fully-tuned car with 350 hp. isn't that the same vague figure hyundai gives for it's stock 3.8 with 306/314 hp? instead of teasing us with guesstimates, how about an actual drive/performance review?

Not bad. The red one looks fantastic, with the blacked out roof panel, and the Five:Axis Design wheels.
What kills me is that all of this aftermarket work, and nobody seems to get the front end right, which Hyundai itself missed the mark on.
There are two character lines that meet, just below the inboard headlight corners. On the OEM bumper, those lines do not continue all the way down to the chin spoiler area, to divide the front lower intakes into three distinct parts.
The White car here, as well as the Rod Millen mid-engined car just SHUN the body lines all together, and look like parts were grafted on from other cars entirely, and cartoonish at that. At least the Rod Millen car blanks off the front grille, which is a slight improvement.
The red car here uses the stock front bumper cover, that still doesn't remedy the body line abrupt end.
It seems like there is a prime opportunity for a good designer, (which I wish I were, then maybe I could get these ideas out of my head, and into the real world, and maybe even make some $$$...) That could make an aftermarket front fascia that would integrate a nicer grille, or remove the grille, and properly integrate the lower intakes into the bodylines that the car already has, coming down from the headlights, and the hood, and bring them all the way down to the chin spoiler, and develop some complimentary shapes and surfaces on the front of that car.
Someone also needs to apply a graphic element to tie the up-swept lower line of the rear quarter window into the character line in the door and front fender.
I wish Hyundai had done that from the factory, actually... the Coupe looks under-developed, after the Genesis sedan came off so well, and so nicely integrated and well finished.

I'm actually the owner of the road race car. We're hitting about 300 right now. Anyway, it's Rhys millen not rod. The grill is necessary for the oem intake snorkel to draw air. And it's road race motorsports. Not engineering.
