Kevin Morgan Phoenix Trans Am Concept 2 - Click above for high-res image gallery

Last year in Las Vegas, graphic designer Kevin Morgan showed off the first Trans Am rebody of the new Camaro at SEMA 2008. This year he is back with T/A version 2.0 for SEMA 2009. While the original "Phoenix" T/A 1.0 had the Bandit color combo we know and love, a few of the details were off in making it a true '77-'78 Trans Am redo.

For this year's show he's rectified that situation with a new quad-headlight front fascia and a few other changes that bring it more in line with the uber Firebirds we remember from our misspent youths. Slip into one of these black and gold Trans Ams and before you know it you'll be East Bound and Down, calling for the Snowman on your CB to help you stay one step ahead of Smokey. Built in conjunction with fabricator Todd Otto, one-off versions can be ordered to spec, and a kit version will also be made available through Trans Am Depot starting in early 2010.

I like it. I used to own an original Black Special Edition (Bandit) Trans Am and regret selling is.

Of course if GM actually made a T/A version of the car it wouldn't sell in spite of people who say they would buy one.

      friggin awesome!!!

I just wish they didn't use the color black--it's hard to see the details. I can barely make out the tail lights.

Really nice looking nonetheless--and yeah those headlights look a lot like the E46 BMW.

        Agreed!

Are those BMW 3 series headlights they used??

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarcana.
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

Ol' Smokey's got them ears on and he's hot on your trail.
He aint gonna rest 'til you're in jail.
So you got to dodge 'im and you got to duck 'im,
you got to keep that diesel truckin'.
Just put that hammer down and give it hell.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.

Where is Jerry Reed when we need him?

all i see these days is people and things trying to be something they aren't.

Turning a Camaro into a firebird? it seems everyone these days is obsessed with taking something and turning into something it will never actually be.

Personally this is no different than the people that try to make their vette's look like Ferrari's.
actually.. it is different because this isn't about turning a corvette into a ferrari that costs several times more because they wish they had it or because it looks better.. its about turning a camaro into its sister car.. a car that was nearly the same car under a different brand for 30 years.. a piece of american heritage that we will never get back but can appreciate in these individual interpretations of what could have been.. as far as i'm concerned this IS a firebird

Since the Gen5 Camaro's styling is based on the '69 Camaro, a '69 Trans Am would be the best fit, with the quad round headlights and twin leading edge hood scoops, white paint with the dual blue stripes, and a set of Rally II wheels. Of course having a '69 400 or 428 under the hood wouldn't hurt, either.
