Microsoft teams up with automakers for Windows 7 theme packs
Microsoft has been in the car business for years, supplying specialized infotainment systems to automakers like Ford and Fiat. But the door swings both ways as a handful of automakers have released special theme packages for the new Windows 7 operating system.
So far Infiniti, Porsche, Ferrari and Ducati have all created custom themes for Windows 7, including desktop wallpapers, slide shows, screen savers and color schemes. Of course, automakers aren't the only companies taking part, with themes also available from Coca-Cola and Pepsi, the upcoming film Avatar, as well as Microsoft's own brands Bing, Gears of War and Zune. Follow the link to check out the growing selection, but unless you've got Windows 7 that's as close as you can get.

So, it looks like it's just a series of wallpapers (that I can get online anyway) and a corresponding change in the color scheme (which anyone can do in Vista). Nice idea, but not exactly that special. Anyone can add there own wallpaper, change the color scheme, and select a user icon to create any car theme they want.

Or you could just download one of these and appreciate getting a free theme that's pretty cool. I'm using the Ducati theme now and I like it, lots of different backgrounds it cycles through (no pun intended). The Zune ones's look pretty cool too.

It cycles through wallpapers?
I'm not usually a fan of such things (uses up some system resources), but that might be interesting. I end up changing my wallpaper often, anyway.

All the themes for Win7 that I've seen cycle through a series of wallpapers although you can just set a single static desktop if you want. Haven't notice any resources issues. And yea, the Ferrari one is very cool.

Well, wallpaper and screensaver sites can often be filled with programs bundling adware, so to be able to download it from Microsoft would be one of the first themes I would consider. The net is rampant with crappy designed themes.

It's interesting that there's no Ford theme, considering all the co-dev between MS and Ford on Ford's SYNC platform.
