Mazda recalls nearly 40,000 B-Series pickups over cruise control issues
Last month, Ford widened its cruise control switch recall to 4.5 million vehicles. Included in the growing list of cars and trucks was the Ford Ranger pickup – the mechanical twin to the now-discontinued Mazda B-Series pickup. Not surprisingly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has now widened its recall to encompass 39,600 of Mazda's 1995-1997 and 2001-2003 trucks for the exact same fault.
According to the recall, trucks equipped with a Texas Instruments speed control deactivation switch (SCDS) and/or anti-lock brake system (ABS) manufactured on or before December 5, 2002, may encounter a vehicle fire if the switch deteriorates and leaks. As in the Ford recall, Mazda dealers will install a universal fused jumper harness on the cruise control deactivation switch at no charge.

Same story as the Ford issue, is it not? Considering this is a Ranger with a Mazda badge.

Recall aside, it is a shame this vehicle remains in the Mazda lineup. It and the Tribute quite simply have none of the brand attributes Mazda has worked so hard to put in all their own vehicles. From what I understand the truck remains more out of dealer wishes than Mazda's. The same may be the case for the Tribute, I'm not sure.

Idk, I was never a fan of the 98+ front end like shown in the pic, which makes me pretty fortunate to have found my 97, as the 95-97s seem to be pretty rare.
Does anyone know if this would still be a hazard if you never actually use the cruise control? Also, can you have it serviced at any Mazda dealer, regardless of where you bought it from?

JF, recalls like this are irrespective of where you bought the vehicle from. All service depts that are for this brand must do the recall work.
And I would not leave a wiring/electrical defect intact, regardless of whether I ever used that feature.
