Raptor vs. X6 M: Click above to watch the video after the jump

The Ford SVT Raptor and the BMW X6 M are alike in that both vehicles represent the most extreme versions of their base forms. The Raptor, with its the triple-bypass Fox shocks and 35-inch tires, is a Baja-ready version of the F-150 right off the showroom floor. Meanwhile, the BMW X6 M is the 550-horsepower speed-demon version of the mild-mannered X6 luxury crossover. The two rides have little in common other than their extreme, top-tier positioning, yet 0-60 Magazine has found a way to put the two together for its Winter 2010 issue.

We don't know what the gang at 0-60 actually did with the Raptor and the X6 M, but the magazine has managed to slap together a teaser video to whet the palette. Hit the jump to watch 0-60 have a bit of fun with the X6 M and the SVT Raptor. And if you're not a big fan of the vid, you can simply sit back and enjoy the 1:21-minute excerpt of Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart" that sets the aural backdrop to the onscreen mayhem.

I'm picturing a Top Gear-esque race where the X6M takes the winding road and the Raptor cuts across country.
        You listening Jezza?
My thoughts exactly, because, let's be honest, the X6 M is as useless off the road as the Raptor is on the road.
      LoL at the the Raptor..

There is no comparison, no American car can hold a candle to a BMW. I was a Ford guy my entire life, owned 7 Ford cars/vans all of which gave good service for the money, then bought a 2001 BMW 530i. It is the best car I have ever owned, the handling, ride, acceleration, and durabiltiy have been superb and are nearly as good now as when I took delivery. I drive all cars until they become unreliable or unsafe and, after 8-9 years, despite really good care, all of my prior Fords showed a lot of wear with stuff going wrong frequently( the unhappy combination of high tech and cheap); this BMW hasn't had a problem yet and may make 20. Now I could have bought 2 Fords for the price and perhaps it would be a wash financially, and newer Fords are clearly better than in the past but they aren't no BMW.

Who cares about specialty cars like the Raptor?

      They won't save Ford.

What ford needs to do is learn how to make good bread-and-butter CARS not trucks, like the transplants.

Everyone drooling over the Raptor needs to spend some time in a rental Focus (like I had to last week), then you'll know why Ford is in trouble.
I rented it for a business trip and it was the only thing Enterprise desk at the airport had available. Well either that or (shudder) on Aveo. The decision wasn't difficult, given those two choices.
And you didn't take the Aveo because...?

        I thought you HATED Ford.
It was either Focus, Aveo, or walk, dipsh*t. It wasn't a hard decision among those terrible options.
Brian, you're a liar. You're hatred for anything American matches only my hatred for anything Japanese. And if you're true to your hatred, you would'nt be caught dead in anything American just as I would'nt be caught dead in anything Japanese. You lost any credibility when you included the Scion in your rant.
Go back and play with your Atari.
I didn't take the Aveo because the Aveo is the literal taint of the entire automotive industry while the Focus is merely bad.
I don't know about the Focus you rented, but the Focus I spent a week in, last month, was far better than any of the Nissans and Toyotas I've been stuck with. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs that size car.
Or you can spend some time in a loaded Flex rental like I recently did and see where Ford has made absolute strides in the types of vehicles they produce over the last 5 years.

Was it a work provided rental for you? A Focus? Find a company that doesnt cheap out and youll get better cars.
Besides you HAVE to get your cheap entry level car RIGHT as a company. This is where Ford and GM fall down, the Focus and Cobalts are sad jokes next to the Civic, Mazda 3, and Scion tC.
The F-150 has been the top selling VEHICLE for the past several decades...They didn't take govt bailouts like GM or Chrysler.....Yeah....their doing it all wrong.......
If this fabricated claim came from anyone but you, Brian, there is a remote possibility that it could have a chance of being possible. My wife, son, business partner and myself travel extensively and have never found a lack of Japanese and especially Hyundai's and Kia's for rent.
And the Scion is better than the Focus? Highly subjective since the Scion ranks near the bottom of every quality survey I've read. Even the crapbox Kia beats it.
And sorry but the Scion tC is a 100% better car than a Focus coupe.

Seriously Brian? What a joke your comment is. How about the Fusion...a great, well engineered car that is selling like hotcakes. How about the Flex and Edge, two crossovers that are also selling well and getting great reviews. How about the Escape, a well-built, very popular SUV despite the fact that it is still basically the first generation design? And your perception of the Focus notwithstanding, there are thousands of owners that love their Focus, including my wife. And Ford's trucks continue to be class-leading, making money for them like any other product...they're nothing to laugh off. Ford continues to improve in customer satisfaction and reliability ratings, surpassing companies like Honda and especially Toyota, a company that is struggling to get the clearance between their accelerator pedal and the floor right. Ford may not be dominating the market, but they're improving in just about every area, and their sales numbers look better than pretty much everyone else. Get off your high horse and look objectively at the reality of the automotive market right now...Ford is getting stronger all the time.

The Raptor is a big success for Ford because it is building showroom traffic and pulling in non-Ford customers. Plus, its sold-out and selling off dealer lots at sticker, fully loaded in the mid-to-upper $40K's... very profitable indeed!

And it gets better next spring with the Boss 6.2L V8 and 4-door crew cab in late 2010...
i'll be in line for a boss crew cab!
      Completely pointless comparison
The Raptor is really a great truck. Would be nice to see a desert racing racing series.
I'd like to see the X6M take a 20' vertical jump.

That would have funny consequences I think.
for sure, especially after that cracked oil which afflicted that x5 driver who mistakenly drove over a few other cars in that parking lot. off road vehicles the X series are not.
Oh goodie! I have been torn between this high end ORV and a luxury german SUV for quite some time now. This comparison should settle it!
That Raptor was made for me, this would be my vehicle of choice in my native country roads in Mexico.
