MotoIQ provides sport compact geeks a port in the storm

We've never been fond of blatantly pimping the sites of our colleagues, but if (like us) you've been jonesing for tech-rich features and import performance stories after the unfortunate demise of Sport Compact Car and Turbo, MotoIQ has stepped up to fill the void.
Headed up by Mike Kojima and featuring the insightful scribblings of Eric Hsu, Sarah Forst and Dave Coleman, MotoIQ's first few months of publication have erred on the Nissan-centric side. But recently they've added both a Subaru WRX STI and Mitsubishi Evolution X to their stable of project cars, along with documented the progress of their Scion tC Speed World Challenge racer and work on a Honda motorcycle.
Thanks to Kojima, it's overly geeky (which we like) and Coleman's return to the world of writing has provided plenty of laughs around Autoblog HQ. If sport compact performance is your thing, it's worth checking out. We wouldn't lead you astray, would we?

Anything with Dave Coleman involved gets instant street cred.

Agreed. I want a "Dave Coleman is God" sticker for my WRX-swapped 2.5RS.

Was coming to say the same thing - you had me at Coleman.
SCC was great - real builds, real expensive, real difficult. None of the tunerz glamour, all of the gearheads blood, sweat, and tears. I would pay good money to get SCC back issues in searchable PDF format. Their annual Sports Car Challenge and primer articles are gold.

Nice site. Love the Ruckus build up. Although they should have bolted a 150 cc GY6 up to it.
Kind of also makes me regret getting rid of my tC. No, not really.

poked around for 2 minutes on the site. Content looks good, and I'm a big fan of all those writers (basically the crew when SCC was actually a good magazine). Maybe a worthy addition to grassroots motorsports, which IMHO is the only decent enthusiast magazine out there right now.

Good recommendation, I've been loving MotoIQ. But I'd go a step further... Sure, the cars they work on are mostly sport compacts, but there's tons of great tech that's pretty universal, or at least should be interesting to car geeks of all stripes.
If you're in to working on cars, definitely check it out!

The more folks who go check out MotoIQ and get active in the discussion going on, the more they will be able to expand their stable of projects. There are lots of plans and wishes to get more content going on, especially on the advanced tech/alternative energy side, but the site needs to grow in readership to drive those projects.
On that note Mike Kojima loves to mod everything. He has even built the motors in a few pocket bikes. They are quite scary because it is very hard to hold on.

When did "geeky" and "tech" replace "ricer"? I dont see a single non ricer there. Im a huge tech buff but I cant stand ricers

You obviously haven't looked at anything with any detail. Check out the article on KW suspension on the Evo X project and the attached commments. Check out the suspension work on the Lexus drift car. Have a read on the buildup of the Lemons Miata. Go read the forum.

Glad to see Damon changed "colleges" to "colleagues". Spell check doesn't work so well when you misspell a word as another real word.

I have been hanging on Mike Kojima's every word since 1996 and I can tell you he is a true standup guy. His words and deeds in service to his compatriots are what really honor any person and his are of the first order. His technical excellence is just icing on a very good cake.

Sorry but Dave Coleman is the reason I canceled my SCC subscription.
He a terrible, terrible writer. His overwrought metaphors should be a textbook example of how not to do moto journalism.
I'm not saying that MotoIQ will suck simply because he's involved, but I know it doesn't entice me to check them out. At all.

Seriously? Overwrought metaphors? Look, I'm not saying I don't suck, but metaphors aren't really part of my writing style, so I'm baffled by the criticism. You sure you aren't mixing up my sucking with someone else's sucking?

Ha I'm saying it will suck, Eric is a nice guy however.

Awesome, Nice too see Kojima and Sarah back at it! 2 Big SR20 guru's and old school forum junkies!
Best of luck been on the site a while, I miss the old turbo / SCC mags way before the ricer craze..

Coleman and Kojima? Dayum, I thought they would just go away, Mike with his EVO and Dave with whatever the hell he has some Drifting contraption.
SCC went down hill when it became Nissan (because of Kojima's corruption, he was a Nissan employee at the time, maybe still) Mazda, Honda Lovefest in every issue. Also going over Grassroots Motorsports ground and covering NASA racing which many of the editors also did, nobody was interested in but their cronies.
Why would I go to a site with seriously BIAS coverage.
