REPORT: Mad Max emerges from Thunderdome on Fury Road

It costs too much money to make all those original Hollywood flops that no one pays to see, so new movie news these days is mostly a succession of "We're rebooting/remaking/doing a sequel for [insert any movie made before this year]." So even though Paranormal was shot for $10,000 and made $22 million last weekend, the big news is Mad Max is going the Rocky route, coming in for episode four: Mad Max: Fury Road.
For all of us who do want another hero and do want to know the way home, Mad Max probably won't be him or show us this time around. The project doesn't have studio backing yet, just the franchise's producer, $100 million, and a tentative production date of next year. Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) and Charlize Theron (really?) are rumored to be tied to the project. Mad Max with a big budget and big stars sounds like a mad mess, but at least it will give us an overdue reason to shout "You can run... but you can't hide!" Hat tip to Richard.

The original had a 'feel' about it, which made it fun to watch. I think Death Race 2000 had the same 'feel' -- it's reboot was just an action flick with explosions and guns. I fear for Mad Max.

Sounds interesting, but in order for it to work, it needs the intensity and passion that made the original a hit.
I'd rather watch a remake of Duel, complee with the 1956 Peterbuilt and matching tank trailer. The only problems: what car can serve as the victim and who can replace Dennis Weaver?

If there's an XB Falcon V8 Interceptor in it, I might be game. I just hope it doesn't reek of the cheesiness that sometimes accompanies "remakes".

And a few KZ1000s.

Yawn, another lame remake. Of course, remakes are nothing new - even in the 1930s and '40s, Hollywood was producing remakes of earlier films.

"But he's just a ragedy man".
As much as I liked the three previous movies, I would be a little skeptical of another one this late in the game. The other 3 had that raw feeling about them and I'm afraid they would now have to rely too much on CGI effects which would kill the vibe of the series for me.

musik to my ears, those news. I cant wait!
I just loved those flicks, the end of the world plus a man and his car.
I would be Mad Max rather than Superman or Hulk^^ if I had the choice.
but you guys are right, it needs that atmosphere. if that will be lost I might
go for beeing Hancock instead...

I thought Mel's career was over when he started badmouthing the people who really run bartertown. Is Russell Crowe starring (since he's the remak of Mel Gibson)?

At the rate things are going with the economy, peak oil, etc etc... we'll all get to living out our Mad Max scenarios soon enough...

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was very prophetic when it came to the future of alternative fuels:
"Pig sh!t. The lights, the motors, the vehicles, all run by a high-powered gas called methane. And methane cometh from pig sh!t. "

I’ve been thinking Hugh Jackman would be a great Max since I first saw him and Gibson has gone all celebrity whacko anyway.
A big budget so often kills a franchise like this lets hope George Miller is on guard.
Hey it couldn’t suck as much as that SpeedRacer movie. Could it?

Seeing how Hollywood is doing: "We're rebooting/remaking/doing a sequel for [insert any movie made before this year]." The US car manufactures have been doing it for years as well.

Meh a remake or a sequel has been in 'devolpmental hell' for years. A remake makes more sense though since Mel Gibson wouldn't be Max regardless of it being a sequel or a remake.
