Tokyo 2009: Subaru Legacy B4 GT300 is pure JDM awesomeness
Our jaws literally dropped when we spotted this car in the Subaru booth here at the Tokyo Motor Show. The concoction of carbon fiber spoilers, wings and widened fenders seen here is the Legacy B4 GT300 racecar that is set to compete in Japan's Super GT series next year. The car actually made its racing debut at Fuji Speedway last month, and even though previous driveline problems prevented this racer from making an even earlier debut, the B4 GT300 managed 300 trouble-free kilometers to finish a respectable 18th place.
As for specs, the Legacy B4 GT300 features a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four that pumps out more than 300 horsepower. With all-wheel drive, a six-speed sequential transmission, and a curb weight of just over 2800 pounds, we imagine it's an absolute blast to pilot around the track. You can see the car in detail in our high-res gallery below.

Exhausts exiting in front of the front tire!! Gotta love that.

I guess we can't call this a ''tailpipe''! Mean looking Legacy

New definition of Bad-A$$ right there...
Having that exhaust all the way up front can add some extra air over all of those splitters and winglets haha

It looks amazing! I have never seen exhaust in the front like this before in my life! Has there been a car that has done this before?
Great work Subaru!

That exhaust dumps straight left of the turbo. One of the new aspects of having a low-center front-mounted turbocharger, instead of the old high-right position.
Gee... the car has a very low hood line, and the window cowl and belt line is below the tops of the tires...
The street version of the car might actually have looked decent with a low cowl and belt line, and a low hood line. Obviously the boxer still fits under the hood.
Daft pedestrian regulations, and SUV-appeal design (having to be ported to Outback bodystyle does height and bulkiness no favors.)
This just shows a bit of what could be done, but just wasn't. Somewhere between this race car, and the bulky street car, is where it should have been.

Exhaust ahead of the front wheels, not so awesome. Take a look at pic 3. You can tell that the whole engine, as well as the exhaust, sits ahead of the front wheels. That makes this a nose heavy beast. Can you say understeer? And the article says the car finished a respectable 18th. Respectable, maybe in a 40+ car field, but in a 20 car field, not so much.

I really really want to root for Subaru. If they can get their styling right...and they show some signs of life in that regard, it's a company that really puts in engineers first, you've got to respect that. Plus the fact they put out hot hatches with great AWD and Manuals sure is nice …no?

WOW! That thing is crazy looking. Reminds me of a nitro RC car I had when I was a teenager.

Absolutely beautiful. I know it would never happen but it makes me crave a two door Legacy GT.

JDM happens to stand for Japanese Domestic Market. Just saying.

That does look aggressive, too bad that the stock version looks so weird. Just my opinion.

"the B4 GT300 managed 300 trouble-free kilometers "
Wow- they were able to drive it a whole 186 miles without any issues! Congratulations, Subaru!

That's impressive on a new chassis in motorsport.

Those 186 miles were on a racetrack. For a new racecar platform, it's nothing to shake a stick at.
The Proctologist 4:28PM (10/22/2009)
Sorry, but 186 miles is not an amazing foray into motorsports. How many trouble free miles have other new entries in road racing had? Seems to me many 'new' chassis have made it through 186 miles in road racing without fanfare. While it is a good achievement, it is not necessarily a major one.

If only NASCAR looked this good...

Only in a name is this a Legacy because just like Nascar none of these cars carry any stock parts over to the race cars. Its still cool looking though
