The Lexus LFA may cost $375k, but the paper one is free

Many people are into model cars. And... origami. Tangrams, too – which are sort of a two-dimensional, reusable form of origami. What are we on about here, why are we discussing folding paper and models? Funny you should ask. See, the all new Lexus LFA went ahead and got revealed the other day and initial reaction (at least around the Autoblog virtual office) has been pretty negative – negative towards a certain dude name Damon Lavrinc who gets to jet off to Miami and drive the latest Japanese ubercar and it's 560-hp, 4.8-liter V10 that has to propel just 3,263 pounds. Jerk.
But fear not, because even if we don't get to drive the mightiest ever Lexus (and Lord knows at $375,000 we'll never be able to afford one), we can still have one, in a sense. As it turns out, an incredibly loose sense. But yes, if you click this here link, you will find a website that lets you print out a LFA pattern, and with a coupe quick folds you too can have your very own (paper) Lexus LFA. The question then becomes, how good is your printer? OK, we've got to go now, our planet needs us. Thanks to Will for the tip!

That LFA is ugly as hell? Are you on crack? What do you drive?
Geo Metro?
Leclerc 1:41PM (10/22/2009)
Dude, just stop. Always an idiot.
Farris 1:41PM (10/22/2009)
Skim, he's not alone. I find the LFA really ugly too. For the record, I drive an e46 BMW.
Leclerc 1:43PM (10/22/2009)
Farris your my hero.
Venom 1:49PM (10/22/2009)
I don't think it is ugly.
I just lost all interest in it when they announced the price as $375,000, let's just say $400,000 because that is what it really is.
It is kind of like the girl you always thought was hot and then she opens her mouth and starts talking and then you realize she is not so hot anymore. That is how I feel about this car.

The problem is that the 2nd concept looked fantastic, and this production version is such a let down from EVERY angle compared to it.
Just compare these images to the ones in this posts gallery.

The concept looks like a $300k car, the production version? FAIL.

It's certainly not ugly. However, it certainly not $400K pretty. It may not even be $150K pretty once you put it side by side with the Euros.
Staggs 2:45PM (10/22/2009)
It is ugly because to me it looks like a cross between a Lamborghini, an Audi, and maybe a Ferrari in there somewhere.
Sort of bulky too, and definitely doesn't look as expensive as it is. I'll say they won't sell so many just because of that.

I'm suprised Toyota does so well with such horrible design. The only decent looking Toyota is the FJ Cruiser, but it's pretty impractical with those suicide doors. When I first saw pictures of the LFA (weak name to boot) it looked like a 70k failure, still reeling now that I know the price. The zr1 has 80 more horse power, and weighs 80 lbs more (same thing basically) and does it (forgoing style all together) for $275,000.00 less. The only thing special about the LFA is its limited run, lame.
Yaroukh 4:58PM (10/22/2009)
@skim: How does his ride relate to his opinion on supersports and wannabe-supersports?
skim 6:44PM (10/22/2009)
Yaroukh, because general public will agree that although LFA is expensive, it certainly is not ugly. I wish I could buy one. But I am just stuck w/my Infiniti G37S Coupe.
Due to his poor judgment in tastes, my first crappy car that I imagined instantly in my mind which he may drive was... the... Geo Metro!
craighead 12:36AM (10/23/2009)
I stand by what I said. It's really not a well designed car.
No, I don't drive a Geo. I drive a first gen Miata, a '70 Chrysler Imperial, and an '88 944 Turbo S.
ambientFLIER 9:23PM (10/23/2009)
Lol. All the people that think it's ugly are getting low-ranked. Have you idiots ever heard of personal preference? Yeah, it's ugly. Boo hoo. Low rank me...

Toyota is really putting pouring on the marketing.

A ZR-1 will equal or beat it in all performance categories. But all hail the mighty Toyota. And it's alllllllllloooooooooootttttttttttttttt less expensive.
(I always say that but I never claimed to be anything but a one trick pony lol)
Temple 2:52PM (10/22/2009)
That's what it is isn't it. A halo car. A marketing device. Audi paid for a ton of product placement of the R8 to be in a ton of movies like Will Smith's "I, Robot" and "Iron Man". It wasn't to sell the R8 it was so people would look positively on the Audi brand.
You people aren't actually going to buy a $375,000 car, hell, the very vast majority of people here aren't even going to buy supercar "bargains" like the ZR-1 & GT-R.
The fact is, even if this car was half the price some people would complain about it. They'll FIND a reason to hate it. Because its Japanese. Because its a Lexus. Because they don't like the design. Because. Because.
Farris 3:06PM (10/22/2009)
"The fact is, even if this car was half the price some people would complain about it. They'll FIND a reason to hate it."
Yes we would. Because then it would be an ugly 200k supercar instead of a 400k one.
mk15 4:25PM (10/22/2009)
Temple, very good points.
Personally, I like the LFA. But if people don't like it, that's fine with me. I just wish it wasn't made of so much unobtanium.
Rar 1:56PM (10/22/2009)
Who buy that car?
For $375k, you can buy 3 Audi R8.
More Faster, More beautiful, more race proven, European super car (better than rice cooker)
that is a very first super car 'wannabe' from toyota, If you are 'beta tester' of Toyota or toyota employee, buy that.
