Tickled pink over the Lexus LFA configurator
Lexus LFA Configurator - Click above for high-res image gallery
This appears to be the week of the Lexus LFA, with tons of new images (both live and press), videos, and details spilling out about Toyota's new supercar. While the car itself is on display at the Tokyo Motor Show, those who want to get up close and personal with the V10 wonder can do so today, at least virtually. Toyota just launched the configurator for the Lexus LFA and all we can say is, it's fabulous.
The configurator is fairly typical, with wheel and brake caliper selections, exterior 360 degree views, and several interior angles, but the thing that really caught our attention is the color palette Lexus has chosen for its new halo vehicle. The standard colors are fairly conservative, silver, gray, white, red, black, yellow, brown and blue, but the "special" color options take this Lexus in a whole new direction.
Check out the gallery to see what we mean, but suffice it to say that Lambo owners might even wince at some of the available hues.

Heh, first brand that offers flat black as a factory option, now that the fad is over...

I foresee a convertible version made by Mattel with Ken Riding shotgun.

My favorite interior option is the "blackish brown" upholstery.

This car always looks to me like hood is perpetually open.

The red pearl exterior looks great in this car.

I was wrong. This car apparently can look even worse than it did in white.

You know what this car has going for it? It's different. It's not another Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche. I saw a convertible Gallardo just yesterday and am quickly becoming un impressed. This car will grab my attention.

I don't get comments like these. It isn't as though there aren't true exlcusive alternatives. When was the last time you saw a zonda? I've seen one, once, I have yet to see another car which grabbed my attention like that one. Same for the reventon. I guess the point is, there are lots of actually rare cars (zonda) and artificially rare cars (reventon) out there, you just don't see them... because they're rare.
MikeofLA 1:45PM (10/21/2009)
The point Zamafir, is that this car is not $800,000+ (like the TRUE exclusive "alternatives"). It's in the range of a Murcialago/599/512, and I don't ever expect to see a Reventon. I would be surprised if any Reventon made had more then 200 miles on it. A Zonda or a CCX are over the $800,000 mark and are uber-rare cars. This, while limited to 500, will not be "as" rare and I could expect to see them in my city. I've seen a handful of Porsche GTs, Enzo's and a ton of SLRs.

I'll go along with it not being "another" Porsche, but Ferrari and Lamborghini? Where the heck do you live that there are so many Murcielagos that you're bored of seeing them?
Nobody had anything like the Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice on the road until they came out either, and the mere fact that you didn't see many of them did not make them great cars.
I might also mention that 99% of the public will never know what this car is. They'll think it's a mid-90's Supra with a fiberglass body kit. That's not the image I'd want to project in my $375,000 vehicle.

@skablaw
As my name would suggest, I Live in LA. I travel through Hollywood, Miracle Mile, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills and the like on a reqular basis. Most of the SLR's I've seen are in Calabasas or Agoura Hills, the Ferrari's and Porsches more common on the Westside.
But, Let me clarify... or you can just read what I said one more time.
I said what this car has going for it is it's Different.
I never said it was good looking, better or my choice of cars. In all reality, if I had the option of a $375K vehicle, I would go straight to a used helicopter dealership and skip the traffic this city is plagued with... I Kid, I'd buy an R8 and an F350 with some money left over for a Sea Ray.

@skablaw - as mentioned, he's in LA. I work in SD (La Jolla) and see F430s, gallardos, and lesser cars (NSX, etc) daily, so I get where he's coming from.
@ Mike - thanks for the post, I did some digging, your partially right, the 'base' zonda (which'll beat the ever loving you know what out of this car) is actually about the same price starting at . £330,000 to the LF-A's £325,000.

We haven't seen the performance numbers yet but if this car can run with the Italians then I'm sold. Mike has a point, it is very different and refreshing.
skablaw 2:13PM (10/21/2009)
Right, MikeofLA. Okay, so if I'd paid attention I would have known where you live that you're bored of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Well, that may be, but not everyone lives in LA, although anyone who has been there may find it hard to believe there are more people in the world.
I stand by the total ambiguity of this car, though. Maybe if/when I see it on the street I'll really take notice, but from the pictures I've seen it looks more VeilSide than Lexus, and I mean that in the cruelest way possible.

seems like a lot of colour options for a 'limited' production run. I guess it means there will be 500 different colour LF's.

As much as it will cost, I should be able to get in pink, purple, fuschia, and any other color I choose.
