Next-gen Infiniti Qx – Click above for high-res image gallery of spy shots

Based on the gargantuan Nissan Armada, the Infiniti QX56 is one big beast of an SUV. Especially next to the svelte FX, and even more so now that the EX has joined the line-up. Keeping such a goliath of a truck looking fresh is a challenge unto itself, but Nissan's luxury division is apparently working on it.

The biggest thing to hit Tempe since Super Bowl XXX, this QX test mule was spied by one of our intrepid readers while apparently undergoing hot weather testing around the Phoenix suburb. The vehicle in question, as you can see, is wearing heavy camo, but appears to carry the same pronounced grille as the current model, albeit with more angular headlights to mimic its little brothers. The rear end appears to be undergoing a restyling as well, while the C-pillar-mounted rear door handle – a hallmark of Nissan sport-utes in the Pathfinder family – have apparently moved to the more conventional position. That's about all we can surmise about the behemoth hiding underneath that Michelin Man suit, but you can have a look for yourself in the exclusive gallery of spy shots below. Thanks for sending these in, Justin!

Looks like the new QX is going the way of the Patrol.

I REALLY like the look of the outgoing Patrol model... That could've been a truly formidable Land Cruiser rival here like it is in the rest of the world.

Needless to say, I'm a bit disappointed with the way they seem to be going with the new one. It looks... confused.

That being said, it's not as pointless as the LX570 is.

Yikes. Those beautiful, flowing, thin headlights do NOT go well at all with the giant tall grille and the generally upright box.
It should be more like a GL-competitor than an Escalade-competitor, and it should look the part as well.

Actually saw it driving down Broadway yesterday..... if it was supposed to be camo'd it was a massive fail called it within 2 sec.

These spy shots do not bode well...

Seems like someone needs to tell the designers at Renault-Nissan that making a good-looking vehicle should be a higher priority than tacking on brand-specific styling cues to give a "family resemblance".

If "brand identification" turns your vehicle into a hellish eyesore, rethink things. Styling cues and proportions that work on your sport coupe may not necessarily translate to your minivans, SUVs, and pickups.

As long as there are professional ball players and celebs who like the bling and need the capacity to roll with their posses, there will always be a market to support something like the QX.

If you don't get it, it ain't for you.

Hey Justin - I hope they paid you for those. I heard the guy who shot the other set for Priddy and Company made a few bills. Congrats on the scoop!

Is there some award I don't know about for creating the ugliest vehicle on the face of the planet?

This and the Crosstour are definitely the front runners.

I think that's gonna be one ugly mother effer.

Ugly doesn't begin to describe this thing... it reminds me of when Jeremy put a BMW badge on a plate of sick on TG... thats what this is... a block of sick with wheels and an Infiniti badge.

I found this post about a month and a half ago. The finished product should look good.
