VIDEO: Vette versus Impreza at the scariest track day ever
Click above to view the video after the jump
We know two things about this video: 1) The in-car camera is mounted to a Subaru Impreza WRX modified by Canadian tuners Lachute Performance and 2) We've thankfully never been to a track day like this.
From what we can tell, the Lachute crew is drawing a bead on one of the Corvettes and right around the four-minute mark (after several scary passes and slides), the Impreza gets clipped by one of Chevy's finest, goes off course and then rams into another Corvette while coming back on track. And everyone's acting like it's just another Sunday drive. We count at least two more wrecks and several offs over the eight-and-a-half minute video, so we're not sure if this was a track day, a sanctioned competition or something far, far scarier. If you can shed some light on the situation, let us know in the comments.
UPDATE: Impreza vs. Vetta highlight reel added after the jump, and yes, this was a sanctioned event: the Jacques Villeneuve Grand Prix of Mirabel at ICAR. Wouldn't he be proud...

Some of the battling up to the first off is a bit dicey, let's attribute to the obviously wet track. But nobody flagged the WRX back on to the track after he went off, and nobody black flagged him for swiping the Corvette. Where the hell are the marshalls?
Yaroukh 7:01PM (10/16/2009)
when exactly did you hear it?
downhill.specialist 7:05PM (10/16/2009)
I couldn't even hear the Vette over the Suby...
gerrrg 7:25PM (10/16/2009)
Looked like the 'vette was fishtailing it a few times...not as good a driver as the subie.
adrenalnjunky 7:26PM (10/16/2009)
I could hear the vette whenever the subie got alongside him - def a V8 engine note added to the sound of the subaru's engine.

Yes, but sadly the Corvette driver DRIVES murderously as well!!!
Fyrewerx 9:15PM (10/16/2009)
@gerrrg: Yes the "2-wheel" drive Vette was fishtailing a bit (in the wet), but what was the all-wheel drive Impreza's excuse???
why not the LS2LS7? 10:31PM (10/16/2009)
Yeah, he gets a little slip angle going once he gets close to the Vette. Both were working it too hard (especially the Vette, as he loses it at a corner).

gotta love the miss shift then the bahh bahhh boggg from the scubby around the 620 mark
Zag 8:52AM (10/18/2009)
Um, the Vette should have given way to the WRX it was on the inside of the corner, so under race rules has the right of way.
As for the WRX sounding like a V8 they only sound like that once you put a 3 inch echuast on them then you'll get the much deeper sound from the 4cyl.

I've always loved the Porsche-like sound of the Imprezas with good exhaust systems.

word.

I am not hearing any heel and toe. although, cool drive never the less. I would second that that is more dangerous than racing. Although, I see flag waived at the corner station. Perhaps a time trial? I can't imagine this is an open track day and hitting and bumping was sanctioned.

It sure as hell was NOT a track day!!! Contact would have required BOTH drivers to come in & (1) check for damage & (2) get a WTF were you thinking speech from the Lead Course Marshall!!! This for ONE contact let alone TWO!
Plus a time trial or track day would have had the smaller/ lower HP cars in a separate class / or session. The Subie driver has obviously a much better driver than the Corvette guy... look how many times he tracked down (& caught ) him in that 8 minute video clip. Sure AWD helped in those conditions... but the guy driving the Vette was way over his head!!! :( :(

You don't hear any heel and toe because the Subaru seems to be running a sequential gearbox. You can tell be the sound. You just bang the shifter into a lower gear and the engine management takes care of the revs.
why not the LS2LS7? 6:54PM (10/16/2009)
What are those little cars they're passing, the slower ones?

Oh, and you notice the car already had a crack in the windshield at the very start of the video too.
By small cars, I mean the Yaris-looking things, not the V-dubs.
