24 Hours of LeMons announces 23-race 2010 schedule

Full disclosure: I work for the 24 Hours of LeMons. Once a month (though twice as often next year) I don a black robe, white wig and a rubber mallet spray-painted brown to look like a gavel. It's all part of the traveling big top nonsense that is $500 car racing. I mention this because I have a
In case you live in a barn, LeMons ran one race in 2006, four races in 2007, six races in 2008, will complete ten races in 2009 and has scheduled a bewildering 23 races all over this fine land of ours for 2010. Meaning that if 2010 goes off as planned (what could go wrong?) more LeMons races will be run next year than in the four previous years combined. Dang. Founder and Chief Perp Jay Lamm was too busy racing his Alf$a Romeo to comment, so instead we grabbed a quote from
I hear that, Nick! Interestingly (to some), LeMons will be expanding into some new markets next year, including Phoenix, Dallas, Washington DC, Denver, Omaha, Chicago and Miami. So if the idea of pointlessly running around in circles while sweating yourself to death for the better part of a weekend for the one out of 150 chance to win four hundred pounds of nickels appeals to your inner masochist, come on out and race. Lord knowsSince most of us didn't have a life already, filling up every waking moment of 2010 with LeMons races wasn't a huge sacrifice [crying]

Man.. I just had to pay $695 for my car! I coulda entered! haha.. Be nice if this got filmed and became a Tv show say in Spike or Speed. Just call it "Budget Racers", a hour long show that spotlights a few of the drivers per episode and follow them as they race, toss in a heavy dose of humor and it would be a classic.

How did someone pick up a running V-12 BMW for $500

You don't know 12-cylinder BMWs very well, do you?
dukeisduke 4:50PM (10/16/2009)
It sounds fishy to me, too. There's a video from a 2007 race of a 740 being destroyed because it had been disqualified.

I know a dude who got an old 750iL on a trade. I can say with 100% sincerity I wouldn't have paid $500 for it.
There was an ominous feeling driving it, as if at any moment the exotic 12 cylinder monster could suddenly demand many thousands of dollars in repairs.
I advised him to sell it while it was still moving under its own power before it could break and render itself less than worthless.

I know they're expensive to repair but this one was running. Granted I don't know how well though and it is missing some of the front fascia but 500 still seems cheap for one even if it is facing impending doom.

Jonny is right, those BMW V-12s are a nightmare in reliability and you can easily find a higher mileage model for cheap. I see more then you would think at the pick-a-parts I go to. Most of the cars there have the motors already pulled but 9 out of 10 of those Bimmers don't.

I see Pedo Bear, but I don't see his van..... probably too busy to race it.

So Jonny, any idea where the race will be here around Dallas? Maybe the motorsports park SW of Fort Worth (in Cresson)?

Can we get a race itinerary? We need some Oklahoma races... maybe at Hallet.

Looks like the "Dallas" event will be held in Decatur, northwest of Fort Worth, on June 5th and 6th:

Totally worth it. Last year was awesome to watch just as a spectator, I'm hoping to be able to spend some time there next year seeing that it's a 24 hour race. Woo.

There's now a race in Phoenix! It looks like a lot of fun, even for a spectator...

The most fun you'll have in a weekend at a racing event. Laughing your ass off at "The Mystery Machine" being passed by "Craptastic" while a VW rabbit (with rabbit ears and a fur covered shell) screams along on it's last legs (but yet never quite bites it) is well worth the cost of witnessing this event.
Can't wait to join the ranks at Thunderhill!
