VIDEO: Ford debuts slew of new Drive One commercials starring real people

Ford is feeling pretty good about its products right now, and the Blue Oval is spreading the word by doubling down with a multitude of new ads for print, web and TV. Ford's newest ads feature real Ford owners talking about features they like in their new vehicles. The 15-second spots highlight the company's new technologies featured in much of its 2009 and 2010 lineup including SYNC, Travel Link and even the second row refrigerator in the Ford Flex.
Hit the jump to watch Paul, Becky, Hayley, Kristen, Jonathon, Amie and Adam talk about their favorite new features. We're thinking it's a little annoying that everyone in the commercial is under 30 and Ford found it necessary to use the lame shaky camera bit to give the quick ads that viral YouTube look, but that seems to be all the rage these days. On the bright side, Becky loves her Fusion Hybrid so much that she can't help but mumble at the end.

why not the LS2LS7? 11:35AM (10/09/2009)
I'm Amie and I'm a Ford.
That pretty much says it all there. If you liked the Microsoft ads with young people buying computers, this is more for you.

Ford, I love you lately.
Simple, product/feature-oriented, honest. No glitz, no hyperbole.
That will sell cars.

I agree--these are good spots. The average new-car buyer shops on brand image/rep and is sold on "surprise-and-delight" features they see in the showroom. Ford's doing a good job of building the former, by highlighting the latter in increasingly decent packages.

Kristen is quite doable.

Kristen may be do-able, but If you base a car buying decision on a girl who..
-admits to knowing basically nothing about car maintenance
and
-would like, totally include pink ambient light if she ever built a car...
..you're destined for fail. Just sayin'

Becky has a lead foot though :D
And brunettes > blondes
Yaroukh 12:04PM (10/09/2009)
@tunafish: Something tells me this one was aimed at women.
jv2k 12:07PM (10/09/2009)
I agree with tunafish. It's like those mac computers with idiots who can't work computers.
"like I would make all cars with pink lights, and I'm not sure when my oil is suppose to be changed"
and then there is
"It really hauls I tell you... it sure can..."
Randy 12:11PM (10/09/2009)
@tunafish
All the better friend! She'll stick around longer for "oil changes"....

I've always hated commercials with "real people". I don't know them, I don't know who they are, and considering that a big chunk of people don't appreciate driving or understand car technology, it's useless. One of the most annoying ones is Ford's radio commercial about the Edge, where a "real person" says "I thought it was a BWM, Lexus or Audi".... really, the Edge has it's own design, looks nothing like any of those brands. It's one of the best looking CUV on the road..... show and talk about the product, not about your rivals... when you do, you say "one day, we wish we could be as well regarded as BMW, Lexus, Audi"

It's not just a "look", they really are on You tube!

They're simple, short, and sweet commercials. They focus on the merit of the product alone, and don't try to say something foolish like "HEY LOOK! We compare to the Accord! Please believe us!" This is the advertising focus that Ford has been missing, something that more subtly gives the consumer the idea that Ford has reached a level of superiority.

So Ford pulls some people off the street, pays them a $20 to stand in front of one of their appliances and read a script on how they like a gimmick it has?
I really hope they're not paying that Farley goof a lot of money. Up to this point, he has shown he isn't worth the money spent on the business cards...and these new "ads" reinforce that.

Wow...the kool-aid must be strong today.
What a useless link. That's as bad as when Ford was thumping their chest about how the Fusion or one of their appliances had HUGE web traffic. But then you look at the sales numbers and only like 30% of the web traffic actually bought the horrid appliance.
Jake 12:51PM (10/09/2009)
Yeah, Ford should have done like Buick and based their ads off of how great Lexus is doing.
0scar 1:27PM (10/09/2009)
ENOUGH already with your stupid vendetta...we GET it already...you don't like Ford. So what. No one cares.
obliv222 3:42PM (10/09/2009)
@Matt
We know youre jealous that Ford didnt have to take bailout money where GM did. But do you really have to come spout lies here every chance you get? You must watch Fox news.
merlot066 11:51PM (10/09/2009)
obliv222, don't you remember? Ford took 5 billion dollars.... oh that's what Matt wants you to think. Do you remember this Matt? You want me to go over it again? Ford was granted a 5 billion dollar low intrest loan from the Department of Energy so they could accelerate their alternative fuel vehicle program. Not a bailout to a company that wound up in bankruptcy court two weeks later, normal people can see the difference.
Also Matthew, these commercials are to show the things that Ford has that nobody else does. A hybrid that is "somewhat sporty", capless fueling, free vehicle health reports, real time gas prices, SYNC in general, and the rear refrigerator (Chrysler has a heated and cooled cup holder... on the Sebring).
Matt 12:39AM (10/10/2009)
Waterboy...it's 5.9 BILLION from the DOE...which is the government.
And that 5.9 BILLION of taxpayer money Ford took relieves 5.9 BILLION of Ford's money that can be spent on keeping the lights on.
Only a blind cheerleader would twins Ford taking government money into Ford not taking Government money.
