Has Gran Turismo 5 been postponed?

We don't know if the marketing folks at Polyphony Digital are messing with us or if building one of the most impressive racing simulators of all time is just really, really hard. For some reason, the rumored release date of the hotly anticipated Gran Turismo 5 is jumping around like the rear axle of a gen one Cadillac CTS-V. We've heard December 29, 2009, late 2009 and even a March 2010 Japan release. Now comes word on the Amazon website that GT5 is going to be released on March 31, 2010. Frankly, we liked "late 2009" a lot more, but it appears we have little say in the matter.
Who knows, the constant date-shifting could be a heartless attempt by Kazunori Yamauchi and his minions to keep their perpetually forthcoming release in the news. We're thinking it's time to stop with the tomfoolery and get this thing launched. Five years and an all-new gaming console is long enough to wait for the answer to GT4.

Is anyone else going to complain about GT5 Prologue? It's the same game but with less cars and tracks. Basically, it's a full-priced demo. Ugh.

The hardcore GT gamers already have Prologue. Anybody out there who claims to be so upset about the delayed release of the real game, and DOESN'T already have Prologue, is just a poser. They are either anti-PS3 or a Forza fan and just want to rub it in even more. Its kinda like the Yankee fan who calls up the radio station posing as a Met fan and bashes the Mets. So sad.
I've been racing Prologue for over a year now. It's highly entertaining and highly competitive and will keep me entertained for another year if it must. There are many leagues and contests that you can join and compete in if you follow the online forums. Its not a perfect system and sometimes hit or miss, but fun can be had.
However, I must say that these Polyphony guys, aside from making the best game ever, really have made themselves look like morons. Its ok to miss a deadline, but to miss it several times and by more than a year shows that somebody really sucks at what they do. They better get it right!

@Chris
I take it that it never occurred to you that some people who love racing games don't deem it worthwhile to buy a whole new system and setup for a demo they are being charged for? To say that people who are bashing this endless failure to meet deadlines are not hardcore or Forza fans is absolutely moronic btw. Ever think that there are people who simply don't want to fork over cash for a game that MIGHT be coming god knows when? It's already been pushed back onto another system, why buy a PS3 just for prologue?
Fanboyism never ceases to amaze me.

I'd say I'm a fairly hardcore GT fan, played all 4, bought a PS2 for GT3, but I'm NOT going to buy a PS3 for "prologue" especially when Forza exists (GT5 will probably be what it takes to get me to buy a PS3).
I like some things about each of the games, but bottom line, I'm a fan of realistic car games and Forza is a good example.
Funny truth of the matter 3 Forza games will have launched in the time it took to develop 1 GT game.

I know. I am fed up of playing the Prologue.

@ waiownsyou:
Whatever dude. If you wanna make yourself feel better cuz you bought a $50-$60 demo, go ahead, but don't use that as the reason to call yourself a "hardcore" GT fan.
I'm a hardcore GT fan, but I'm not gonna drop that kinda money on 50 cars and no ability to modify any of them. That's pretty idiotic.
There's good reason to be pissed at Polyphony Digital right now. I know they're developing an awesome product, and awesome products take time, but all this date-dropping is getting pretty d@mn annoying. There's a simple solution, as long as it takes, not date-drop unless you can actually deliver.

My fault waiownsyou....My last post was meant for Chris.

I guess I'm not hardcore. I bought Prologue used.

@NateB123
First off.....if forking over $30 for GT5 Prologue is so problematic for some, they shouldn't be wasting time posting on any website. They have more important things to worry about, obviously! You are a fool to think the game "might" be coming. It's not a matter of "if", but "when". So buying the PS3 isn't going to backfire on anyone.
@Acura
Dude....are you living in a cave??? I paid $29.99 for GT5P the day it came out....it was NEVER $50-$60. Also, there are way more than 50 cars in the game. In case you didn't know, you can tune the cars in Prologue. If you're hellbent on adding spoilers, fancy paint and fartcans to your cars then there are already plently of racing games out there for you. If you are a hardcore racer and strive to get around the track as fast as you can by means of your tuning ability and your driving skills then GT5P will keep you very busy.
You're not a hardcore GT racer, you are just cheap and uninformed!

I think the PS4 will be out before GT5 hits the shelves. How long has it been? Just come out with it already.

I'd join in the complaints & say I was bored with it too & all that stuff... but the fact is I'm still gonna buy it when it comes out, so for now I'll just sit annoyed in (relative) silence and wait...

Its easy. They are simulating the future release of a game. And I´m simulating that I will buy a PS3 when its available. How about that???!!!

I don't need to simulate buying a PS3. I bought one a while back so that I could use it as Blu-ray player, play games and media files.
Can't see how 300 USD is too expensive for a Blu-ray +game system + media center. Then again I'm not weighed down by kids and wife.
Jorge 1:07PM (10/09/2009)
No kids and wife here too. I dont see the reason to buy the PS3 to play a demo, If I can spend that time on a real track on weekends, instead of seated on the couch.

Seriously - all the fanboi's that get boners at the mention of GT5 need to settle down and find something else to obsess about. You are acting like those women who's husbands beat the crap out of them but you ALWAYS find an excuse to go back to them.
If it doesnt hit till 2011... that means Forza 3 will have an incredible lead.
To put it all in perspective when Forza 2 came out it was either get a 360 or PS3 and wait for GT.... obviously i made the right choice because 2+ years later GT5 isnt even out. I'm not one to kick when they are down... but Sony has lost a potential sale of a console because of this one game taking forever.
Snooze you lose.
