VIDEO: Citroën remixes its 90-year history for celebratory commercial
Citroën celebrates 90 years -- Click above to watch video
Citroën is perhaps the wackiest mass-market auto manufacturer still in business (have you seen the 2CV, C-Cactus, and that dancing robot?), and this year, the company celebrates 90 years of mercantilism.
In celebration of that achievement, they have put together a 90-second video flyover of some of the most memorable – or just plain intriguing – pieces of company lore. From using the Eiffel tower as a billboard for a decade, to de Gaulle, the Pope, the WRC, and the Playstation, there's been a lot of it. Follow the jump to watch the video.

Nice compilation but an unfortunate choice of music :-(

The music was perfect, quirky just like their cars.
A great ad.

The music was so much better than most car videos, but I'm not sure it really captured the essence of the video... quirky works for the video, yes, but I'm sure there's a better track out there somewhere.

Man, Citroen has gone from being the car company with the most quirky car designs to a company with the best looking quirky designs. I really do wish some of those cars were offered in the States.

Seconded. I love Citroen cars. They may not be the best value, the most reliable, or the most fun-to-drive, but they have a huge dollop of character, are deliciously quirky, and have a very "French" style about them. They possess a very Gallic quality that I feel Renault is beginning to lose.

great cars - growing up in Holland, my grandfather always drove Citroens. Seeing the one shot of the "floating dial" speedometer in the video reminded me of driving with him. The pneumatic suspensions were always cool too. Having to wait for the car to raise itself before driving off was neat.

That shot got me too. I had a '79 CX, and always referred to the dials as "bathroom scale" speedo and tach. I miss driving that car, but don't miss working on it ;-)

Jonathon, you're not using the term mercantilism properly. Mercantilism encourages exports and discourages imports and is (was) most often practiced by countries, not producers of products. By not competing in the US market, Citroen would be doing something OTHER than mercantilism. I think the term you are searching for is "doing business." man, KISS always works best!

It was in the beginning.

Got two Citros at home, no mechanical problems, just really great machines.
If i bought a new car it will definitely be another Citro, this time it might be a C5
If i recall it correctly it was the first mass-production car company outside the USA.
And having almost 10 years their name in the Eiffel towers is something unbelievable.

GT by Citroen looks great. An alien car, but a great look.

Have you see the SportLounge concept from 2005?

I think the PSA group doesn't go all the way if their concepts mainly because of the market choices

pretty cool. Their new logo sucks though.

They've had nice cars. I'm just glad Loeb is getting a good run for his money from Hirvonen this year after getting "used to," winning WRC rallies (and championships).
