Toyota and the Beautiful Woman - Click above to watch the video after the break
It's always fun when advertisers take a well-known marketing cliche and turn it onside its head. Such is the case with today's Funny Car Commercial of the Day, where we see a beautiful woman walking the streets of Norway with predictable results from the men she passes along the way.
Men both young and old find themselves unable to look away from the object of their desire, leading to a couple of unfortunate accidents. The woman seems unfazed, as if these events are part of her normal daily routine. But wait, there's a twist. We don't want to give it away, so click past the break to watch the video for yourself. That was really funny. Loved the look on the guy's face at the very end.. "Ooh, that's gotta hurt. "

Wow, she must have been looking at some svelte guy getting into his Maserati. Doesn't that happen to ugly people/cars all the time? You think she's smiling at you, but it's the guy behind you?

Classy commercial, lots of slow-motion mixed with reaction shots and shallow depth-of-field. HOWEVER... That generation Corolla is HIDEOUSLY UGLY. This is the same nose Toyota borrowed from the Impreza that had its Nose re-shaped very early in the product cycle to quell complaints of its eyesore status. Notice how marketing likes to guise up puke-inducing designs with the words beautiful, poetry and gorgeous. Alas, calling a turd a rose still makes it a turd. This is exactly like the Saturn ( RIP ) L sedan that was marketed in it's last year with a commercial using AlphaVille's song "Forever Young" playing while the used Opel leftover strolled slow-motioned through suburbia while kids looked on in desire. Wake up marketing trolls! Your Saturn is no Ferrari supercar and this Toyota is certainly no stunner by any means.

Toyota is a big shareholder in Fuji Heavy Industry.

That's an eight generation E110 Corolla, produced between 1996 and 2001. Subaru "borrowed" the nose for it's 2001 Impreza, not the inverse ;)

They weren't a shareholder until waaay after this commercial was made

I remember that commercial being aired here in sweden. Waaay old, must be 10 years or so. Apparently, also shown in Norway. Did not know that.
And yes, the corolla was a minger.

All the cars have Norwegian plates, so I think this ad was made for Toyota Scandinavia. If I remember correctly, this even got a prize at the annual commercial award show "Gullfisken". Or at least featured as one of the 12 funniest commercials of that year.

All toyotas are UGLY, I want a battery hybrid. But I would never get a Prius. Waiting for the Volvo V70 or C30 battery hybrid whichever comes out first

The only Toyota that could ever elicit stares like that is the 2000GT. The Corolla is way too boring and common to get a prolonged look. If she did that with every Corolla that passed her way, she'd have had a concussion already.

Is that Malcolm (in the middle) in the beginning of the ad?

I went back and looked and I do think you are right. It's not unusual for American actors to do foreign commercials.
