VIDEO: Aston Martin releases new Rapide video chronicling development
After seeing the production Aston Martin Rapide at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, we're pretty sure it's one of the most attractive sedans ever produced. And now that we've seen the sleek looking sedan in motion, we're 100 percent sure the Rapide is a winner.
Aston Martin has released a simply stunning video of the Rapide in various stages of development, from the skid pad to the Nurburgring, kicking off with a 50 second montage with just enough Rapide to keep us interested, then another 30 seconds in the garage. From there, the Rapide heads over to Germany for some hot-lapping, then the video crescendos at the Stelvio Pass in northern Italy for some powertrain development. Hit the jump to view the video for yourself, you'll be happy you took the three minutes out of your day.

I know it's beautiful, but don't hate me saying that the grill looks cheap.

what the hell are you talking about, it's the same grill as all the other aston martins.

In profile it looks slightly off. If they would try to design a bespoke four door, instead of just stretching the DB9, i think it would look better.

Absolutely gorgeous car and that setting that they were driving in in Italy is breathtaking.

I checked the Ferrari model line-up (well not really) and I didn't spot any sedans. Last time I checked they were building proper sports cars.

Sexiest front engined car lineup on the market. maybe ever. Definitely currently.
profile doesn't get much purer than that. Good that they all look related, because they all look hot.

Is it me or does all awesome car cinematography now remind you of Top Gear?

Now that you mentioned it, it does seems like the crew from Top Gear did it. Too bad there were no engine sounds.
zamafir 11:20AM (10/03/2009)
in terms of scenery? sure. in terms of cinematography, filters, editing, composition, quality? no. Topgear's miles beyond this. This video's fine for a promotional piece, it's great seeing the rapide from every angle, but it lacks all the hallmarks of a topgear segment.
OC_cars 1:24PM (10/03/2009)
Sorta, but not even close. TG uses more trick lens filters than an 80's Penthouse shoot.

I actually thought it was kinda boring because my expectations were spoiled by Top Gear's productions.
I also have issue with this post's title: "Chronicling Development"? Seriously? I saw some grass. Then an Aston-looking car driving on a track. Yes, like every other car in the world, it drives around corners; and in the rain, slightly. Then in a garage. Oh, it has four doors. Nurburgring… wow, look at all that durability. Oh, they went to Stelvio Pass, yeah Top Gear did that already, and they brought three cars. What does any of that have to do with this car and its "development"?
The photography wasn't terrible, but there was absolutely no point to the piece. I could barely hear the car under the lame soundtrack. Some titles or narration or interviews would help me understand why it's important or why i should care. Because after watching that, i don't.
