CAR has just published what are believed to be the first pictures of the new Ford Fiesta S2000 rally car. With a few extra mods, it's set to take on all comers as Ford's 2011 WRC contender as well. It makes sense, because Ford has already confirmed (along with Citroen) that plan to enter both classes and they've confirmed that the Fiesta is the car they plan to run.
S2000 cars run naturally aspirated engines generating about 270 horsepower, while WRC cars can be turbocharged and run with tweaked bodywork.
The pics were shot during a shakedown run in Cumbria, England. According to CAR, a second car should be ready by the end of October with full homologation starting in January 2010. M-Sport is once again behind the build for Ford which reportedly took just six months this time around.

Damn. That's pretty effective camouflage.

Why would they camo it? Will they be making a homologation special??? I hope they do!

From the front, those wide flanks remind me an awful lot of Ford's old Puma ST Racing.

So this means the Focus will not be running WRC anymore? Ford's downsizing, like they did when they went from the Sierra to the Escort, or when Subaru went from the Legacy to the Impreza?

I know it designated the displacement, but that's an unfortunate suffix.

The new WRcars will be AWD and will use a 1.6T but they'll be based off of Super 2000 cars. Of course they'll have a boy racer wing and other aero mods.

you need 500.000€ to build this.
ask www.xtrac.com for a quote on a wrc gearbox, axles, differentials.
the gearbox alone wil cost ya 100.000€

--That will be Matthew Wilson driving

-- Its called digital camouflage so you can not make out the body lines, so other teams can not copy the body design. The car you see is pretty much the car that will be homologated
So this means the Focus will not be running WRC anymore? Ford's downsizing, like they did when they went from the Sierra to the Escort, or when Subaru went from the Legacy to the Impreza?
-- The foucs will still be used in next years WRC championship, then in 2011 a 1600 turbo car will replace the wrc and s2000 cars, but s2000's will be run next year within the s200 cup championship
you need 500.000€ to build this.
-- Actually you don't the FIA have stated a cost that all s2000 cars can be sold for, not sure the exact amount but a current WRC car is 500.000 so it will be much less than this for a s2000

Being a huge WRC fan for almost 10 years I can't see this going well. I understand the FIA is trying to cheapen the cost of the sport so it attracts more manufactures but I think it's hurting the sport. Even most the rules changes that have happened throughout the last few years have had some negative effects in my opinion.
Long live the WRC!

Didn't they unveil it fully at a WRC event? Italy or Australia or something.
