VIDEO: Behind the scenes of the PSP vs Driver ad
Gran Turismo for PSP - Click above image to view the video after the jump
If you missed the Gran Turismo Playstation Portable ad we featured earlier this week, have a look. We'll wait...
Back? Great. What you saw was Tanner Foust and Rhys Millen running around Laguna Seca, with Millen behind the wheel of a Corvette ZR1 and Foust riding shotgun while running the track on Sony's PSP.
Millen was kind enough to sent us a link to a behind the scenes video of the shoot, and along with Foust and Millen, we also get to see director Jeff Zwart and Rhy's rally champion father, Rod Millen, driving a few other cars during filming. Zwart is a long time rally driver/racer along with being a photographer and filmmaker, and in the new clip we get to see a few other cars (GT-R, Ford GT and... is that an E39 M5? Awesome!) mixing it up and getting sideways at speed with a camera car in the middle of the action. Best job ever? Pretty close. Make the jump to check it out.

Yep, that's an E39 M5 for sure. Great video by the way.

PSP is absolutely useless for driving sims. The steering consists of ON or OFF.

The steering you use the analog stick, though difficult you can technically turn the wheel half way. The ON/OFF part is the gas/brake. I have Racedriver 2006 for the PSP and it does about as good a job as possible in easing on the gas or brake.

It is an E39 M5. And you should've mentioned Inside Line as your source. :o)

Yes, that's true! And who gives these ratings? Fat lonely guys who spend their WHOLE lives in front of a television or in a seat of a Honda Civic. Sorry but I rather take the word of a guy playing the game while sitting in a ZR1, GT-R, or even a Ford GT... a FORD GT.

Also, if Jay Leno is willing to put his voice(reputation) on the game, it won my vote. Game Reviewers? Who even knows their names? To me and to the majority of the world they are nothing. If one of them had a heart attack would anyone care? No.

I bet Ben Heck will find a way to shove a PSPgo into a Logitech steering wheel.

My copy comes tomorrow. The game looks pretty good, and I'm a GT fan, but I'm not sure about the random car buying system (every day you pretty much get a random set of cars to pick from).

Not to mention an Evo as the camera car! Yes! That shoot is made of win.

Hats off to Polyphany Digital for coming out with a game that actually resembles the real-world tracks they are attempting to simulate.
My chums and I were just lamenting the fact that in the recent game NEED FOR SPEED: SHIFT the track layout for Nurburgring is pathetic compared to the old game Gran Turismo 4 which literally modelled each and every tree, shrub, crack in the road etc. very accurately. Proof is (similar to this ad) in that you can watch a real-life video of a track attack at the Nurburgring and do a side-by-side comparo with Gran Turismo 4 and lo-and-behold the attention to detail is stunning. Someone could probably graphically overlay the video game over the real world video and the differences would be negligible.
Too bad we have to wait until (at least) Spring of 2010 to get our paws on Gran Turismo 5 :(
