REPORT: GMC planning diesel Terrain? How about a Denali? Umm... not so much.

The GMC Terrain is just coming to market, but some have speculated that a diesel variant could be on the way to trump the crossover's already impressive 32 mpg highway figure. Well that's just not going to happen, according to Buick GMC boss Susan Docherty. Last month, GMC Communications Group Manager Dayna Hart Tweeted that the Acadia would receive a Denali variant, but the Terrain won't be so lucky. Docherty made no bones about the fact that Denali badging wasn't being planned during a web chat on the GM FastLane blog. That doesn't mean that the Terrain will never be Denali-fied, but at the very least, it won't happen any time soon.
We've heard the Terrain referred to as "awkward," "odd," "homely," and even "brutally wretched," but we've also heard some say that it has "genuine presence for such a small vehicle," and that it is "seriously butch." Either way, Docherty insists that the newest GMC could also be called an early sales success. Inventory for the CUV is low and demand is reportedly high, but Docherty says that the situation should improve in October as production is ramped up at the General's

It does look butch.

I've gotta say, this is the coolest looking small CUV I've seen. Yes, it's kinda "butch" looking, yes, it's got a bit of the Hummer vibe, but that's what I like about it.
I'd totally do this over the Equinox. I'm planning a new vehicle in the spring of '11, and this is the only SUV on my list, purely on looks.

Its butch lines make it look huge, especially when it's alone in the picture.

It looks so much larger b/c of it's squared-off exterior. My biggest question is....will a Denali model have a V8 or more powerful (SC) V6 for both the Acadia and Terrain? If neither SUV is getting a bump in engine grunt, I'd pass on the Denali trim.

Obviously the styling attracts different taste cause I think it looks like crap. How overly exaggerated do you have to make the fenders before you have enough wheel room for duallies? And with that giant chrome face? Its way over the top...I thought GM would have learned their lesson on excess plastic from the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. This design will be popular for a week.

@akboss302
what plastic? if you're referring to the fenders, those aren't plastic.

It's definitely a small crossover that a guy won't look too silly driving. The Lexus RX350 isn't very manly.. Neither is the Acura MDX.. A lot of small crossovers look feminine to me - but this looks pretty good. I like the square shape.. I'm sure we'll see a lot of these on the road - it's just a matter of time...

I'd feel silly driving around in that thing, but I'd feel sillier camouflaging a spam for your own website as a comment.

I did not like the looks of these in pictures, but I thought the silver one I looked at on the lot was attractive.

I agree, it does look butch, in the same way that the Equinox looks a bit femme, either way they're both gay. Hooray for more crossover SUVs!

Autoblog: So you first spread a rumor (diesel Terrain) and bash it in the same article?
I'm going to go renew my subscription to an actual newspaper.

I agree, but the 'real' journalists aren't much better.

GMC ought to be the diesel division.
Seriously - Professional Grade Engineering? Diesels are definitely PGE.
And GMCs already have the cachet to carry a higher priced engine. And they could lead the way in making diesels acceptable to more American buyers. There's absolutely no reason to dislike modern diesels. It's just a matter of getting Americans interested in them.

To bad no diesel. It would be nice if GM would not tell us what we want, but rather offer options and let us make the choice.
I think at least one small GM diesel vehicle should be available to help them with their "environmental" credibility.

If this had been created by someone else (i.e. Crapota or Honda), it would have been praised for it's unique styling. But, because it is GM, it is instantly panned by those who haven't even driven it. While it may have some unusual design points, it is not a poorly styled vehicle and should have as much appeal as anything else in its class.

What does driving it have to do with it's looks? You can't outrun ugly.
C.W. 11:17AM (10/01/2009)
ugly is ugly... who cares what company makes it.
prius = ugly
terrain = ugly
current U.S. focus = ugly
camry = ugly
see... it doesnt matter how great a car is, how dependable, how the mpg's stack up... or who makes it....
you cannot look at the terrain (especially from the side) and say it isn't ugly... if it had a Ford badge or a Toyota emblem on it, it would still be ugly!!!

Wow biased at all? It IS a poorly styled vehicle. Looks even worse in person. Too many large flat square surfaces. The design is poor because it is clearly an attempt to make it look bigger. Nothing wrong with this design motive - but it shouldn't call attention to itself. Not as nasty as the Crosstour though.

HEY, the Terrian is built in CANADA at CAMI Automotive in INGERSOLL! Ramos only builds transmissions for CAMI
