Tokyo Preview: Honda Skydeck concept van achieves door Nirvana - scissors AND sliders

This is the Tokyo Motor Show-bound Honda Skydeck concept, a minivan that is, essentially, a perfect storm of non-standard-hinged door technology. Those doors lead to a passenger cabin featuring center-mounted floating seats that are stackable for easier access to the third row. From there, passengers can take in the breathtaking vistas offered by the all-glass roof, or simply enjoy the Skydeck's minimalist interior, which looks as if it could be the handiwork of IKEA designers being held against their will by armed ASIMO centurions. For added Earth-loving wonderfulness, the Skydeck is, of course, a hybrid. Plus, it earns major bonus points for having translucent green wheels even though SEMA's still over a month away! Check out more pics of the Honda Skydeck in the gallery below.

I would say that the Skydeck beats the nuts off of the Crosstour, but as that car lacks balls already, it's not really appropriate.
I like how the second row seats slide under the fronts.

It's not really a minivan, it's just a car with sliding back doors. It doesn't look too much bigger than a sedan.

Compared to recent Honda designs, this is nice. Not liking the panda bear nose grill, but otherwise it's kinda nice. Profile has some nice curves (which current Hondas lack).

I agree. This appears to be the Japanese design group... they should just get rid of the American group seeing what they are doing especially with the Crosstour and Acura

I LIKE IT! In fact, I just found out that I might be expecting another edition to the family and since we already have a minivan, I am looking for alternatives like the Kia Ronda and Mazda5 for a second "car".
The design looks great, not sure seats like that would ever make production and it's probably too much to ask for Honda to get this out within 9 months right... ; )

I like it but it may inspire families to throw those Lambo doors on their Odyssey

I really wish seats in production cars could be that thin and somehow be practical.

Nice job on the next-gen Odyssey.
So we've seen the Venza, along with the new Tribeca - any more wagons coming from Japan?

Won't the rear door scratch the curb?

Looks like they updated the Volvo V50 wagon, Oak trim and all.

Classic Japanese minimalism.
White cloud, wood grain, and sky.
I agree that those rear doors will likely get jammed if the car parks over a speed bump...
How about suicide lambdo doors which splay open in opposite directions?

The Nissan Forum concept covered this territory almost 2 years ago, and it looks like Honda has studied it well. I am hoping Nissan is serious about bringing its Quest replacement to market soon.

I really don't see this making it to the US. It doesn't have enough room or does it look user friendly. It looks 'cool', but not 'convenient'. And those are the reasons you get a van in the first place, right?
