From the Prancing Horse's Mouth: Montezemolo reportedly confirms Ferrari 458 Spider
Ferrari 458 Spider rendered by Jon Sibal – Click above for high-res image
Like its predecessors, the 458 Spider will likely feature a conventional folding soft-top, and you can expect it'll be one of the lightest and quickest to deploy and retract in the business. Still, there was some speculation that Maranello would forgo building a 458 Spider altogether, leaving its sun-worshipping, V8-lovin' clientele to be tended to by the California. But while the affable marquis has been off on some statements in the past, we'll take this one at wind-in-your-face value. Expect the 458 Spider to appear in a couple of years.

Vincenzo,
How in any way is that a relevant reply to my comment? Or where you trying to just "ride the balloon" since I was the first commenter? ;-/
It's sort of like comment spam.

With the lines on the car harkening back to the classic P3 & Dino 206 SP, a targa top would have been better.

Aaaaaaand, the 355 is continues to be the best modern Ferrari design... maybe next time!

Modern? Nah... exotic, meanest, appropriate... Yes.
Aeromax 5:15PM (9/29/2009)
I consider the 355 modern– yes, it's like a 20+ year old design, but I also didn't want to lump it in with "non modern" Ferraris like the 288, and 250's, etc with which it would never compete on a rarity or aesthetics scale. :-)

Did we really need official confirmation that this was going to happen, I thought it was obvious?
Alright, I'll step aside now and the next hundred posts can be dedicated to crying about the 458 design and how the 355 was so much better. Proceed....

I absolutely HATE that rendering/photochop. My eye is always drawn to the B pillar on the opposite side that you can see through the windshield.

The more I look at this car the more the front end reminds me of the Lamborghini Gallardo

Why? I hate when they make spyders out of supercars.
1) It always screws up the lines
2) No serious car is a convertible...

Has Ferrari officially announced that it will be offered in red? I mean, we've all seen the pictures, but have they OFFICIALLY announced it? Because THAT would be exciting!
...must be a slow news day.

how about the mondial?

The more and more I look at this, the more I don't like it. It just looks like an Enzo replacement or something. I liked the 348, loved the 355, 360 was okay, 430 was great. and this is just... meh. If they kept the styling more in line with the 360/430 it would have been better, but the 430's design became outdated in its later years.

Photochop says Spyder - text says Spider. Does it matter?

This has to be one of the worst photochop jobs in the history of man's existence in this universe. The B pillar is still on the passenger side of the car as well as the interior roof behind the seats.
And the artist was so proud of his "work" that he signed it at the bottom like we would be in awe or something and he could take the credit for a job well done.
