Rush Limbaugh in Jay Leno's Green Car Challenge - Click above to watch the video after the break

As expected, Rush Limbaugh strapped himself behind the wheel of Ford's specially-prepped electric Focus hatchback as part of Jay Leno's Green Car Challenge last night. We don't mean to brag or anything (well, maybe just a little), but we totally predicted the outcome way in advance of the actual running.

No, Rush did not beat Drew Barrymore's time. Yes, he did in fact take out Al Gore... twice. Also Ed Begley Jr. In any case, Limbaugh claims to have enjoyed his time driving a silent electric car in anger and couldn't care less that his time was negatively impacted by aiming for Gore and Begley. Click past the break to watch the video.

I'm a huge car fan, love the Ford Focus ST, and respect Leno for his automotive collection.

Alright, that said - WTF IS THIS $#!T? If Leno called me right now to be on his show taking a lap in that car, on that course I'd have to say no.

        @Derek
Oh, I'd take the lap. And put it solidly into the wall.

When Jay asked "So... what happened out there?" I'd say "I just put this lousy segment out of its misery."

It would be funny if he wasn't such a sad individual
        • 5 Years Ago
        lol thats funny!
But, he did say that he liked the electric car.
Like Top Gear only lame and boring
Maybe that electric car couldn't make it around a track Top Gear's size on one charge (?)
I agree, this is a completely awful wannabe version of Top Gear. The track is FAR too small, they don't teach the people how to drive the track outside of the show, and the gimmicks on the track are STUPID.

Sometimes I really hate how dumb American TV is.

      The video is not here.

      Thanks Youtube.

I enjoyed the segment, because someone finally did something other than just drive around the track. He took it as what it was, entertainment, not a serious competition.

That said, I really enjoyed listening to Al Michaels freak out when the confetti cannon went off. "Holy Mackarel! That was unreal!"

He must have been in a big rush...

        +1

Finally a comment that doesn't suck!
The Green car segment is stupid and should be canceled with the rest of Jay's new show.
      He certainly failed..
The contest is still idiotic, but hitting Al Gore and backing up for a second was BRILLIANT. Gotta love it!
A little Oxycontin would have improved his lap time.
I think it's crack now. see how much weight he's lost
        • 5 Years Ago
If it had been a cutout of a Dominican prostitute he would have hit it 5 or 6 times.
Don't really listen to any political commentary anymore, but that very funny!
I seriously thought that what he did was idiotic and not just because I am a fan of al gore and do believe we are causing global warming. It was childish at best and pointless. All he demonstrated during his segments on the show was that he is indeed a very poorly informed man. He blames the current administration for the bailout (bush pushed it through) and said he would have let GM fail. He also said that electric cars arent helpful to the environment and that is in no way true for it costs less per mile and emits fewer CO2 than fossil fuel vehicles
        • 5 Years Ago
When I watched Leno, I KNEW Autoblog would mention this...

Anyways, very funny indeed! There should definitely be a 10 second time reduction for every time you hit those two. Well, actually, they shouldn't even TIME the second lap. Lame rules, NBC higher-ups, very lame...

You know, I was really looking forward to Jay's Green Car Challenge, and I have to say, I'm COMPLETELY disappointed. As another commenter said, how can you be such a big car buff and borrow an idea from Top Gear, then come up with something this terrible? Take the electric car to a real track. That would actually be entertaining and would actually allow us to get a glimpse of the kind of performance we can expect out of electric vehicles.
